Great advice! Here in the southwest dusting is a science of its own and simplified methods are always welcome!

Right? You dust and then you open the door and you need to dust again. LOL. I dusted the same TV Entertainment center 3 times on the same day. I'm like "where is all this dust coming from?" It was in a house that hadn't been cleaned in a while. I think every time the air cut on it blew more dust around the room. 😱

I have all-vinyl vertical blinds in my apartment (otherwise, I would never have chosen them as window treatments). If you keep an open window that faces a garden or front lawn, the blinds can actually get stained with dirt. Dusting them won't really work if they get stained. You can't successfully clean them with soapy water. I tried everything except bleach (I refuse), and the ONLY thing that worked is a Mr. Clean magic eraser. Total miracle.

@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Mariana for watching. The key with vertical blinds is to include them in a maintenance clean and then you can do both sides with a quick Swiffer Duster sweep bi-weekly. These actually had LOTS of build-up on them but we were able to clean them with just water which is always preferred over heavy-duty chemicals or stuff that smells. 👍
@NovelNovelist2 жыл бұрын
It does look like it came out really great and definitely a great system for cleaning them! LOL, but man, I would HATE having vertical blinds. They seem like such a hassle, and also not a style I appreciate it. To each their own though and I'm sure some people love their vertical blinds.
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
LOL. I've never really thought about it. Cleaning in people's homes they are still so common. Although I admit when I bought a home of my own, I chose the faux wood blinds because they don't warp with the changes of the weather like real wood blinds, and they don't rock back and forth like the vertical blinds do when the doors or windows are open. 😆
@fragilefleur Жыл бұрын
For people wanting to try this, be super careful not to tug downwards on the blinds. The clips at the top are fragile and can break out and break the actual blind. This happened to me at my last home and I was down a few blinds for awhile. My current place I have them but hate them and am afraid I will break them so just pull them back and have curtains installed instead. I still have to clean them even tho I don’t use them bc they still collect dirt.
@AskAngelaBrown Жыл бұрын
Excellent point. You are correct - you do have to be careful (especially since in many older homes) the designer ones may be hard if not impossible to find replacements.
@lambchop2062 жыл бұрын
would you consider this part of a weekly clean or a deep clean? I would check for spots every week, but as far as what your doing here, in my business that would be part of deep cleaning. major respect for your tips Angela! have a blessed week
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cynthia, great question. This is a deep clean. The maintenance clean would be dusting with just a Swiffer duster on one side, turning the blinds, and dusting the other side. The vacuum of the fabric side and the wet wipe of the vinyl side is a deep clean, you are correct. 👏👏👏

Years ago I had patio door vertical blinds that were cloth on each side. I know this isn't recommended, but I would wash them in the washing machine (cold water so they wouldn't shrink). It would take more than one load of course. Then afterwards they would be sort of tangled up together, so that was another job separating them lol. And they would also be pretty wrinkled. Once they were dry I would get out the iron and iron them flat again before re-hanging them. Long process, but I got it to work though. Luckily I didn't have to do that very often.
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness. That sounds like a really complicated process. LOL. I'm so glad you don't have that set up anymore. I know cleaners who take each blind down and try to soak them in the bathtub and often bad things happen like the clips break or the blinds break and then there are missing slats where the sun comes through the closed blinds. 😱
@Sheryl7772 жыл бұрын
@@AskAngelaBrown lol true sometimes it can turn into a real mess for sure....also sometimes while washing them in the washing machine the little metal pieces that fit down at the bottom of the blinds would come out and I'd have to try to find them in the washing machine haha. I'm really happy I don't have that set up anymore too! 😂

I just moved into my new place and don't have a vaccum cleaner yet. Any suggestions if you don't have a vaccum cleaner? Thanks
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
Vacuums are a great investment because you can get rid of dust, pollen and animal and people hair, crumbs etc. If you are between vacuums ask a neighbor if you can borrow theirs for a week or two until you get one.
@fragilefleur Жыл бұрын
At first glance I thought you were going to use gloves for cleaning fronts and backs at the same time just rinsing the gloves on your hands! Lol. I saw one place suggest using old (cotton or anything that won’t leave lint behind) socks folded over to hit both sides at once. Your method looks more professional. I just cleaned my sliding glass doors and screen fronts and backs and the frames. I need to do the tracks which are a pain and have a second floor window exterior that I have to clean from a balcony. I have devised a plan to put a cloth over a rubber patio broom with soapy water to clean the window and the other side of the broom is a squeegee. I am praying I don’t drop the wet cloth downstairs into the bushes. 😅
@AskAngelaBrown Жыл бұрын
Do you know about the DocaPole? (amzn.to/3sMb7Us - paid link) This is the one we use and they have a window attachment that works really well for second story windows. This allows you to get the windows that you can't reach from the ground. No ladder needed.

I have a question about the vertical blinds that were in our sunroom when we bought the house. I assume they are vinyl, no texture on them. They are maybe 30 years old and still in good shape, BUT they get a sort of oily substance that weeps out of them on both sides. I have wiped them down but it comes back. Some areas have droplets of it. It’s a clear substance and it doesn’t evaporate so I assume it’s oil coming out of the vinyl. Have you ever seen this?? And what would you suggest I clean them with. Thanks in advance. 🩷
@AskAngelaBrown10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question! It seems like your blinds may be deteriorating with age, causing them to release oils trapped within the vinyl. Try cleaning them with a mild detergent solution or a gentle all-purpose cleaner diluted with water. Test a small area first to avoid damaging the blinds, and if the problem persists, you might want to consider replacing them.

@@AskAngelaBrown I appreciate your reply. That was my fear, that they will need to be replaced 🥲

I love the vacuum parts but it takes too much time. In my daily work, I take a swifter or something that grab dust and run through the blinds, along the door frame for cow web or dust. Spot checks. Done.

Baking soda vinegar water? Vinegar is an acid and baking soda is a neutralizer - this sounds like a trick I don't know. Do you use them separately? Which one first? How do you do it?

How do I clean fabric verticals that are filthy
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
Hi Eva, Try this method first. With fabric we can remove 95% of dirt just by vacuuming alone. If there is food, drinks or stains on the blinds they may have to be spot cleaned. If you spot clean them my recommendation is to use Blue Magic Spot and Stain Lifter - (amzn.to/3L6AnII this is the paid link but you can find it cheaper at AutoZone.) In a WORSE case scenario, you'll have to take them off the clips and soak them in a bath tub and clean them gently with a microfiber mit - but that would be a last resort.

I don’t know if I missed something, so you just vacuum the front and use a microfiber on back, …..why not wipe down the front after you vacuum it?
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
These particular blinds have a raised cloth texture to them so we vacuumed the front textures. The back of the blinds were damp wiped. If they were both sides vinyl we would have wiped both sides down. The secret is to use common sense depending on the type of blinds you are cleaning. There is no one size fits all, since all blinds are not the same texture. Does that make sense?

LOL. So the valances were REALLY dusty. And I was going to take them down and wash them. But they were pressed and starched when they were hung. And I was told they had not been taken down since 2001. And I had hallucinations of washing them and them literally falling apart in the washing machine - so we agreed that I would just vacuum them and leave them hanging.
