What is your favorite Landmark to see in Washington DC - or you look forward to seeing most on a first trip?

Wife and I visiting from the UK in June and we found this video really helpful and informative. Best tip for me was learning about the capital bike hire scheme. Never knew about it and I have been worrying about all the walking as I have arthritis in the knees. That tip alone has saved me so much actual pain so thanks very much for that.

I was raised in Washington but I've lived in Maryland for most of my life. I've seen alot of the monuments but there are so many that are new. I hope to visit The African American Museum and a few more of the Smithsonian Museums. My favorite is The Vietnam War Memorial.

Hey Josh and Rachel. I truly enjoyed this one. Last time I visited DC was 98 or 99. Something I now find so ironic is that the memorials commemorating those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, were built in almost exact opposite of when those Wars occurred. Good to see them finally built. One last thing. I noticed you highlighted what you had for breakfast on one day and for lunch another day, was exactly the same. Not sure if anyone else noticed that.
@JoshRachael Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I was quite surprised by how young a lot of major memorials were. WWII seems crazy that it is so young

When I visited the Vietnam war wall I burst into tears. I still have my POW bracelet with the name of Major Herb Dolby. And now I saw his name on the wall. I was about 11 years old when I got the bracelet. I think of him all of the time. who was he? Did he have a family? How old was he? Where was he from? God bless all our service men and women. 😔
@JoshRachael Жыл бұрын
Wow that is such an impactful story. How did you get the bracelet?
@ellens9085 Жыл бұрын
@@JoshRachael I just remember my mother either wrote a check or mailed cash for me. The bracelet has a tiny hole in the metal on one end. I believe when I received the bracelet depending if the hole was on the right or left, it meant the soldier was either MIA/POW or died. When I was at the wall a Vietnam veteran made a sketching of his name for me.

So well done Josh & Rachael. You could package and sell this travelogue. Did work pay for your meals, airfare and hotel? We did some of the Smithsonian Museums and major monuments years ago. So much walking. You both must have collapsed after this tour. 👏👏👏

Thanks so much Ted. We really wanted to show respect to all the Landmarks we visited and glad you think it came through. Work paid for my (Josh) airfare, food during conference days, and hotel at a conference in National Harbor Maryland. We paid for Rachael's flight, our hotel in DC for the first night, and these two meals since the conference didn't start til the next day. We both had been to DC before but not together and done several museums each - so much amazing stuff to do!

@@JoshRachael Ya, it is just too much to walk in a 3 day trip. I have to admit, the food choices in that general area were poor. I know DC has great food, but you have to travel a bit. Plus, the people in DC are not as friendly... Ya, I said it! I really enjoyed the museums, history of DC, and Arlington National Cemetery! Thanks for the tour! Go USA!

Needs more fact checking. Construction was halted by the Civil War. When construction resumed after the war, marble from a different layer had to be used whitch was a different shade.
