@@aregimechangeisimminent5781 the giants owned washington during parcells years. He would have wrecked that 1991 team's season. Just like he swept them in 90. Just like he swept them in 89. Just like he swept them in 88. Just like he swept them in 86. Only time gibbs could handle parcells was when parcells was a rookie coach and just getting started in 83 and when there was league upheaval and turmoil due to inseason strike in 87 (outside forces). Otherwise parcells giants owned gibbs washington club. #fact

@@SillyGoose2024 Lets be clear dumbass clown! The head-to-head matchup doesn't prove the New York Giants would've repeat as Super Bowl Champions in 1991. The 1991 New York Giants were an aging roster whose best days were behind him. If Bill Parcells could not repeat in 1987 with a roster that was much younger and more talented, then there is no way in hell, the Giants would've been repeat champs in 1991 even with Parcells at HC. The Redskins were the best team in football in 1991. Your what-if scenarios, dumbass rhetoric, and hyperbole doesn't change the results or facts.

@@aregimechangeisimminent5781 The head-to-head matchup doesn't prove the New York Giants would've repeat as Super Bowl Champion Reply: Look, I know you are a FUCKING IDIOT. Let me spell this out for you, IDIOT. I DID NOT SAY THE GIANTS WOULD HAVE WON THE 1991 SUPER BOWL. I SAID IF PARCELLS HADNT RETIRED, THE GIANTS WOULD HAVE AT LEAST SWEPT THE REDSKINS AND WOULD CHANGED THE DYNAMICS OF THEIR SUPPOSED GREAT SEASON. Washington's great season only occurred because the guy that OWNED them, Parcells retired.....and the 49ers who also owned them in January, Bill Walsh stepped down and Joe Montana was out for the year. the 49ers were in transition. The Skins played garbage teams in the playoffs (Lions, Falcons) not what people look at as the best teams of that era (49ers, Giants). If those teams were in the playoffs (Parcells, Montana, Walsh) one of them wouldve knocked the Skins out because the Skins were never that good. Just lucky thats all)

The Giants Stadium long TD from Rypien was the United Airlines Commerical at the end of most NFL telecasts. Dude was a beast and found ways to get open without using speed as his main weapon. Sanders was faster but somehow Clark got open because they feared Monk and Rickey beating them.

The Steelers’ defense wasn’t bad this season, but Washington was so powerful it made Pittsburgh look like a JV team. Noll’s last two seasons were ruined because of his hire of Joe Walton. The offense just stunk and the team became lethargic, which was a shame after the Cinderella season of 1989 offered hope.

In 1990, Pittsburgh(9-6) had a 1 game lead over both Houston(8-7 and Cincinnati (8-7). A Steelers victory and they win the AFC Central Division. Pittsburgh was on the road in Houston. Cincinnati was at Cleveland and owned the tiebreaker in a 3 way tie for the AFC Central Division Title. Pittsburgh lost to the Oilers, and the Bengals defeated the Browns, giving Cincinnati the AFC Central. Houston became the wildcard over Pittsburgh due to better Division record.

Hardy Nickerson Steelers career came to a conclusion in 1992 when the team refused to adequately compensate him and he was a cornerstone in the landmark class action lawsuit that led to free agency in the NFL. During his final year with the Steelers he was the lowest paid linebacker in the NFL with a paltry salary of $200,000, but in 1993 as the primary plaintiff in the case against the NFL he was freed and signed a lucrative free agent contract with Tampa bay for $5.2 million. Football was great in this era the 79 changes to pass defense and blocking had opened up the game to where you had a great variety of offenses, the One back teams like Washington, the run and shoot and no huddle teams, various forms of the west coast offense plus the more traditional 2 back teams and some great blocking fullbacks but you also had great and various defenses hard hitters and great cover men dominant lines etc but undergirding it all were strong fundamentals, teams could block and tackle and if anyone didn't play hard they became objects of scorn glad I got to see it as a fan
