9:11 Glad you noticed the goalposts. There's a legendary backstory on those.. and it's been passed down over time. I'm pretty sure it's correct, but can't say 100%. Here goes; The goalposts were designed by the engineering dept and some of its students in the early 1980's. From 1954 to 1980 the annual Apple Cup game against the Washington Huskies was played up in Spokane, 80 miles north, at Joe Albi Stadium when Washington State was the home team. (when UW was home team it was played at Husky Stadium in Seattle) In 1982, the Apple Cup game, with WSU as the home team, was moved back to Pullman. Washington needed a win to clinch the Rose Bowl, but WSU.. inspired by playing their first true "home" Apple Cup game in a generation, upset UW with a 24-20 Cougars win, and sent UCLA to the Rose Bowl, ruining the Huskies chances. After the game, students stormed the field to celebrate. Police didn't have enough bodies to guard the goalposts from being torn down, so the State Troopers chose to only guard the post in the east endzone. This prompted a large group of fans to aim for the goal post in the west endzone and they pulled it down. Afterward, school officials tasked the engineering dept. to design a new goal post that wouldn't be able to be torn down. They answered with 2 beams at each goalpost.. and they've never been torn down since.

You probably won't believe it, but it's true: I broadcast the 1st ever game from Martin Stadium, on KWSU TV, in Sept. of 1972.....it was a Pullman HS game. The HS Greyhounds played there before the Cougs did. The north side stands were still the wood ones (tht part of the stadium hadn't been torched by the south side fire.) A temporary press box had been installed on top of the wood stands, because the new south side press box hadn't been installed yet. Also, my June 72 graduation from WSU was the last event at "Rogers Field." So I was part of the last event at Rogers Field, and the 1st event at Martin Stadium.

Slick promo, my guy. I'm chuckling at them spelling out the entire "Washington State" just to abbreviate the "Cougs" part. Like, yall only have 2 more letters. Looks like a fun place to catch a game though!

@@SACSportsAdventures Funny enough I grew up in eastern Washington and I have never been to a Cougs game ! 😅😂 I will eventually get out to a game. You should go to a game at Roos field in Cheney, WA. I am actually going to a game their this fall and I am very excited.

The game before and after this they sold out the stadium. Ranked Wisconsin and ranked OSU, both wins before WSU lost six in a row.

This wasn’t the best environment if ever seen at a cougs game. When it’s sold out it sold much better

That is a small stadium to be in a Power 5 conference
@SACSportsAdventures Жыл бұрын
Yeah, second smallest in the PAC12. Just agreed of Oregon State. It gets the job done though. What they lack in capacity they make up for in passion, tailgating, and a party atmosphere. Pullman is also out in the middle of nowhere and the stadium holds double the towns population. Haha!

It’s because it’s in a small town and for a lot of people who graduated or want to go to a game it’s kinda hard to get out there

for how small it is the stadium is really loud!

@@JohnWilliams-up6zs I was pissed when they banned thunder sticks. You couldn't hear anything in that stadium when we were wailing on those.
