The Washington State Patrol trooper who was struck and killed on Interstate 5 on March 2 was a "truly dedicated" member and "an even better human being," said Chief John Batiste on Saturday afternoon.
Just before 3 a.m., Trooper Christopher M. Gadd was hit by a driver on southbound I-5 near Marysville while working, according to WSP. He died at the scene. Authorities said the suspect was driving at a high rate of speed when he struck Gadd's patrol vehicle.
The suspect, a 32-year-old Lynnwood man, was arrested for vehicular homicide investigation, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.
The 27-year-old man is survived by his wife and his 2-year-old daughter, Batiste said at an afternoon news conference. Gadd's father is also a Washington State Patrol trooper and his sister serves as a trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
