The prototype for the mobile QB is not Jackson, Daniels and Allen, it’s Michael Vick. He’s the QB this current generation of mobile QB’s are emulating. He won’t get his due from many if not most due to his criminal past that took years off of his career, but that aside, he should still get that recognition.

I am probably in the minority here but I find all the QB runs and scrambles to be boring and cheap. Footballs equivalent to a bunt. I don’t find watching a guy run against the wind with ball in hand to be exciting. Season after season of new rules to produce a passing game and what do we end up with? QBs running through empty valleys while every defender on the field has his back turned and running the other way. It’s boring. Football is returning to its rugby roots or at least that’s what it is looking more and more like.
@steves996414 күн бұрын
I agree with you; it's the football equivalent of watching guys jack up threes in basketball. I do like watching the running game, but from a more traditional perspective. Let's face it, they've basically made it impossible to play defense - at least against the top quarterbacks - because even when they're stopped out come the flags. I think the league wants offense, and not necessarily passing; they want these big name QBs to be involved on every play. They want the ball moving, the defense on its heels and points to be scored. The quarterback scrambling is a residue of any tweaks they've made to the passing game because as you said there are gaping running lanes for him once there's a four count and he's survived on his feet with the ball. I find Allen's game more cheap because it reminds me of backyard football. He just slides around back there until someone finally comes open, or he tucks it and runs for first downs. Even the one time Denver stopped Buffalo down deep there was a bad hold downfield that Allen complained about but didn't get. How are these guys supposed to cover for that long? I'd rather bring the house and make him beat me over the top than sit back and give up 10-12 yards a pop, then hope to dig in and stop him in the red zone.
@didgruntleddansnyderfan13 күн бұрын
Well, rugby is a well-balanced team sport. Football is just not. Way too much emphasis on the QB since the forward pass change. It'd be one thing if it was even possible to find 32 young men who were able to play the position at a high level, but that has never and will never be the case. It's too difficult/takes too long to learn. So you're stuck in a situation where 20+ teams are making do until they find their unicorn in the draft and about ten teams compete for the title at any given time. And one of them probablly has a guy who is better than the other QBs anyway. Used to be Brady, now it's Mahomes. That guy is winning ca 75% of the titles until he retires, and then his team is probably rejoining the peasants in waiting for the next unicorn. This is just not good design of a team sport, and I don't care what anybody says. You'd be lucky if it was like rugby.
@khawarsiddiqui34112 күн бұрын
@didgruntleddansnyderfan Fair point, too much emphasis on the QB and less on the team until you get deep into the playoffs and good QB's have to play other good QB's. Than the strength of the roster gets to shine.

The Packers being a legit contender was his narrative so he can't let go without a qualifier. He disrespected Minnesota again and again, meanwhile they won 14 games and swept Green Bay. Green Bay was a solid team, but they beat no one this year. Any step up in class, they went down. Now 0-6 with two losses apiece to Detroit, Philadelphia and Minnesota. That's about as open and shut as it gets.
@Chalk8914 күн бұрын
The GB defense had a million times harder challenge in front of them. IMO, Jordan Love is not a good QB and they don't have any legitimate receivers. If I was to tell you before the game that Philly would win the turnover battle 4-0, you would have predicted 30+ points, a massive win. The defense played it's balls off.

The game has evolved because of the speed and athleticism of the defense. In today's NFL, you have some linebackers and defensive ends who are 6' 4 260 and run 4.5 for the 40 yard dash. The Quarterbacks have to be mobile and elusive to avoid the fast pass rushers.
