Chicago,Peoria,Rockford. Cook County (Chicago's county) is a huge one. It is such a population dense area and, unfortunately, mostly liberal. So the rest of us have no chance. People like you continue to allow for conversations like this and I am 100% grateful. 2nd, please consider this only as an alternate view and not a personal attack. I am in my 50’s as well and just retired from 28 years in Illinois law enforcement, the last 25+ as a Sheriff’s Deputy and all 28 as a patrolman. I ask you in sincerity…Do you know, off hand, how many of the 102 Sheriff’s in Illinois did not enforce the PICA requirements until it was upheld by the Illinois Supreme Court? 94. 94 of them because they saw it as unconstitutional. Only once it was upheld and became law did they have no choice but to enforce it. Regardless of how they felt constitutionally. I see that as more of a Sheriff being legitimate, patriotic and loyal to their oath to the constitution and to their constituents than I do as being as you suggest. As for Illinois legislators and judges are concerned… subjective based on individual beliefs I suppose. I would appreciate that you not paint LE with such a broad stroke brush. Are there some in every profession, yes. But I bet you could list off some in your profession as easily as I could in mine. Thank you, respectfully, for your reconsideration of this stance.

I am pretty sure it's a lot of people in the state of Illinois that got misdemeanors and got their foid card revoked that don't even know they're supposed to still have their Foid card still valid an able to purchase Ammunition and Firearms The game's of the government
@F80mthreeАй бұрын
Absolutely and there’s plenty of people who for whatever reason, misdemeanors or seeking help for depression etc are on a list somewhere and will be auto denied once they apply. No due process in regards to losing their right to own a firearm. It’s all done behind the scenes in an administrative action. I know someone who had some issues 10 years prior with mental health. She took her time and worked on herself over the years, went to apply for a foid about a year ago and was auto denied because she sought help when she was 17. Now she lives in the hood with her first child and has no means to defend herself. Never been charged with any crime and never had a day in court. Never even received noticed that she was on a list for auto denial either, yet they claim they contacted her. Which I highly doubt.

The Supreme Court Justices wimped out on their responsibility to decide whether a law is constitutional or not. This law should have been adjudicated and rescinded.

They did the same thing when they were sued during the pandemic for taking far longer than the 30 day statutory limit to issue a FOID card. All the plaintiffs who had been waiting months, magically started receiving their FOIDs before the case got close to judgment.

And this is why it sucks to be stuck in this state. Cook County, the IL side of the St Louis metro area, and Springfield are blue, the rest of the state believes in freedom.

You made an excellent point that’s why we need the United States Supreme Court to get involved in immediately because they’re not going to give up there. Hocus Pocus the second amendment while we are being denied and that’s not right.🎉

OK. The IL Supreme Court is right in respect of what I call a "lawyerism": that, as THEY state it, a similar future event happening to THESE plaintiffs is an exercise in speculation. HOWEVER, the case goes to the core of, not just harms or prospective harms to these plaintiffs (and the cost of litigating all this crap and inconveniences and changes in plans due to the FOID card revocations were neither trivial nor moot, now or in any future event), but to the legislation itself and the enforcement action both being unconstitutional. The lower court's permanent injunction was proper and necessary, and if it somehow did not apply to all citizens, it should. In sum, the IL Supreme Court failed at least twice here, first in not upholding an injunction for which there was, in context, an obvious necessity, and second, and more broadly, in not recognizing that the context revealed that the whole bloody FOID card scheme is a massive infringement. How these folk achieve public office is beyond me. Surely some voters are deceived, but so many for so long? We The People are explicitly the earthly Sovereign, under God, as those who established the Constitution. We do have the power to throw the rascals out. We perhaps need to establish a mechanism whereby, when clearly constitutional questions are brought before a court, the full expenses of deciding such questions (including lawyers for both/all sides) shall be borne by the public. It is, after all, to the public benefit that constitutional questions be decided as promptly, clearly, and broadly as possible. "As applied" claims can be just as important as others, and courts should favor decisions correcting or nullifying bad law; a possible outcome in some decisions could perhaps include a report of the case to the legislative body responsible, signifying the apparent defect - a bug report, if you will. I have read some laws so arcane, convoluted, and just plain wrong that, had the drafts been submitted as law school assignments, someone would justly have flunked. And I'm just a common citizen.

Since this is an infringement of a Constitutional Right the prospective infringement confirs standing. There was a First Amendment case that established that. The Supreme Court should take this up.

I’d highly recommend visiting J.R. Shooting Sports in Aurora, Illinois the next time you’re in the state. J.R.’s is a much larger store than Law Weapons, and would attract a larger crowd to come out. If you weren’t aware, Law Weapons has no range, and has been on “life support” for years, and doesn’t really have much of a following these days here in Illinois. They’re quickly going the way of RKA, BAT Arms, KEE, and many other Illinois gun stores and ranges that have closed their doors or are shell of what they once were.
