Wasps Nest Spotted at Rowallane Gardens National Trust Please Steer Clear

Today we took ourselves and the 2 grandchildren over to Rowallene, National Trust owned, house, gardens and parkland. The house and gardens date from the 1860s so we were keen for a wee walk round. The 50 acre garden was laid out by the Reverend John Moore. He built a walled garden, created the Pleasure Grounds and planted many trees. It features a walled garden, rock garden woods, wildflower meadows, two walking paths, a bell tower, and a tea room. The estate house is the headquarters of the National Trust in Northern Ireland
The first thing we noticed as we went through the back door of the house was a very active wasps nest, near the wall on the centre circle tree island. My advice about wasps nests is to steer well clear of them and show them a high degree of respect.
A single wasp sting is bad enough. To be stung multiple times is a dreadful thought. Do not use lawnmowers near a wasps nest. They are very aggressive in defending any supposed attack on their homes. Unless it is essential please leave a wasps nest, well alone!

What a nice place Tom. When I get stung I break out in a cold sweat for a few minutes. I like to watch all kinds of bees with a close up view on a large high definition tv. Thanks Tom.

Our bees will only sting once and then die Mike. Wasps will sting multiple times and live to fly away and do it all over again if need be!!!!!!! I fear wasps a lot more than bees!

What a loverly place Tom, nice to have a walk round and a cuppa afterwards, the wasps nest needs dealing with P.D.Q. especially were it's situated it looks like its the reach of an inquisitive dog and even a child,you carn't be too careful.

I think it is far too dangerous to be left there Chris even for an organization promoting nature.

I agree Shaun. The very public place nest should have been removed when it was first spotted. It is far too dangerous to be left.

Oh wasps have their uses Joan. They are important scavengers, cleaner uppers and pollinators. Having a wasps nest in such a public place with families eating and playing is not a good idea. It is far far too dangerous! the nest should have been removed.

I'm amazed the staff maintaining the gardens hadn't noticed it, a wasp sting for an adult is unpleasant but a young toddler getting stung it can be very bad indeed and sometime even fatal.

Oh you can't miss it SkimmingStones. It's the very first thing we saw from the back door. They obviously know about it but have left it. I know that the National Trust is all about supporting nature but I would have thought that they should have at least put a warning sign up for families to avoid it. I wonder how many wee ones will be stung because of it this summer? I reckon it should have been removed. Far too dangerous.
