Waste Connections: Mack MR McNeilus AutoReach Garbage Truck

In the early 2000s, many McNeilus products like these dominated the IESI of McKinney fleet. In the 12+ years since, this truck has been the last of them remaining. But, good news, it runs just about regularly!
It has been so long I cannot remember whether it was this truck or another which did my route, but I can say it has been a decade since I've seen one of these beasts move as fast as it did. From the deep growls to pretty fast arm, this unit is the full package. Collecting on an early morning trash route with 15 years of service, enjoy my take on this second-gen McNeilus side loader!

Great video man! Definitely loved the revving and it was great to see the arm moving fast as this is one of my favorite side loaders. Any idea how long this truck will be used for?

CDStrashman Thank you! This is one of my favorite side loaders too! I didn’t get a chance to ask the driver, but I’d say whenever it has too many problems.

I remember these when I lived back in McKinney, when I was so little. I remember IESI having these in 2009 when I was 3 yrs old. I loved that truck so much.

Awesome find!!! Didn't know any of these were still around. Truck looks incredible in Waste Connections colors. Revving sounded so good and I love how fast the arm is. These second generation Autoreaches look so good. Love the rounded curves of the older McNeilus products, miss that a lot. Great video!

WMmaster626 Thank you! Yeah it does in fact multiple areas have the Progressive paint starting to show. And I agree haha one of my favorite things about these are the hopper space and how round the roof used to be. Glad you liked it!

Awesome! I drove a garbage truck for about 4 months. It was all manual! Drive up, stop, jump out, run to the back of the truck, grab the can, pull it to the back, dump the can, run the can back to the curb, run to the front of the truck.... And do it again on the next stop! 500 times a day! I would come home and could barely walk! I learned a valuable lesson from that job! It's very hard work! I am sure you have to get out often when things don't work out the way they should, or to pick up additional stuff. Good work!

Yes! Set your mind to it, and you can do it. My suggestion is, do it when you have youth on your side! When I got hired to be a garbage truck driver, I was 43! Meaning, for about a month I could barely walk. I clocked about 40 miles a day running. It's very very physical. I interviewed with another waste company last week for an automated garbage truck driver job. If I get it, I will be happy to take some videos and answer any questions if you have any. I will say this about the manual garbage truck driving. It's hard work, but you get in top physical shape. And the pay is excellent. The hours however can be very long, but that's where the money gets very very good.

DFW Refuse no I’ve actually never seen one like that before. It looked pretty nice though. The ones out here in the Boerne area that Vaquero Waste which is now Waste Connections have, they are beige and black. But I haven’t seen any like that around here.

Yep, I drove one of those trucks for almost 3 months. The truck chassis were good but the equipment such as the arm, the packing blades, body, and the hydraulics were straight up trash, they kept breaking down. Hoses would always break on these damn trucks. I blew an oil filter housing on one of the Mack MR series trucks, I completely coated the driver's side cab, steer tires, brake drums, and body in black sludgy engine oil, what a day that was. The Mack LR trucks are worse though, neither the chassis nor the body is reliable on those trucks. I kid you not the Mack LR would break every other day without fail. Ironically enough Waste Connections was one of our many competitors out here in the greater Colorado Springs area, along with Bestway Disposal, Rocky Mountain Disposal, and Waste Management just to name a few. Thank god I am no longer work for a trash disposal company anymore.

Great video dude! This is such a cool truck. It certainly isn’t everyday anymore when you see a revving autoreach that is this fast. Despite being one of my least favorite side loaders, a fast autoreach is super entertaining! Must suck for the driver since this truck is left hand drive, and they don’t have that ACX or Peterbilt corner window for assist. Nonetheless, the driver definitely finessed his way around this truck! Excellent find.

Easily one of my favorite videos in a while. This brought back so many memories for me!! If I wasn’t so cheep, I would seriously consider flying to Texas just to film this truck! This truck sounds absolutely amazing, almost exactly like my truck. Personally my favorite sound a truck can make! This guy didn’t rev as hard as the one on my route, but I seemed just as fast, and I think this driver is smoother with the controls too! Also, What city is this? Lol. It is really beautiful and seems perfect for automated collection. Awesome, awesome video. I would absolutely love it if you filmed this again!!

Garbage industry productions Wow thanks man! Even though this was only my garbage truck when I occasionally visited my grandparents, this brought back memories for me too! I can vividly remember this and an MR Labrie tag teaming! This was in McKinney, TX, and hey, if you save your money then let me know when you’re coming over! I did film a little bit of him last year, however I waited to post the more recent footage because he moves way slower on recycling lol. Glad you enjoyed the video!

I live in Colorado and this company sucks. The increased the price, restricted and reduce the ammount of trash. And now the want to pic only every other week!! Time to change to a different company.

This company is terrible. They bought out pro disposal in Colorado and customer service sucks! Won't pick up the phone, missed pickups, letters telling me what they are not going to do for me. Treat the customer like trash is their policy I guess.
