Wasteland Express Delivery Service Review - The Broken Meeple

Take on the role of the half-insane drivers for the last delivery company left of earth: the Wasteland Express Delivery Service. In order to scratch out a living in this deranged universe, drivers will deliver goods and guns between the handful of settlements pockmarked throughout the hellscape that you call home and take on missions from the handful of factions still trying to hold onto the last dregs of civilization.
Course, none of this is easy. Inhabiting the post-apocalyptic wasteland are unhinged characters set on unleashing mayhem at every turn. If you want to survive, you'll have to battle through the psycho raiders who occupy the void between cities. Maybe the world can be saved, maybe you can bring humanity back from the brink. Band the world back together to fight back against the void. Then again, what the f*&% do you care? You're here to get paid and live another day free. Outfit your truck, get loaded for bear, hire some allies, get paid, and just keep on truckin'.

This was one of the most popular games I owned a few years back, and we played it absolutely loads (went through the campaign twice!)... I was also particularly impressed with the box design esp the totally functional and smart design behind the gametrayz (wrote about it extensively in The SPIRIT #2) ... I eventually sold it on 'cos we'd played it to death, and would disagree with you re. tension towards the finish: we had sooo many games that came right down to the wire, and several where 2-3 players could win on the last round and it finally came down to Turn Order! And yes, we usu played it with 4-5 players and regularly finished it in about 2.5 hrs -- Those special delivery tasks that count towards winning do help considerably!

I completely agree with much of what you’re saying on the negatives. I really like it but I haven’t pulled the game down in awhile because it does have a bit of downtime and can take awhile. There are house rules on BGG that seem to help clear some of that up but I haven’t tried them yet. Good review brother.

I like that there is no victory points in this and the amazing insert. We have done two player games in around 90 minutes but it depends heavily on the contracts as some are a lot easier.

I really enjoy The Oracle of Delphi by Stefan Feld! Fit the less than 2 hours game, and it has an interesting twist :)

I have to say I am a fan of pick up and deliver, but they do all run long. I like Xia, Merchants and Marauders, and Firefly (with the right group) better than this one but I do own it and enjoy it. I keep eyeing up Outer Rim but do I really need a 5th pick up and deliver game?

TheDarktater yeah there seems to be a trend with pickup and deliver in terms of length. Have you considered terror Below? It’s got pickup and deliver elements in a much shorter time.

@@thediceodyssey4690 I debating kickstarting it because of the tremors theme but I came to the same conclusion do I need a 5th pick up and deliver game? I couldn't see getting rid of one of the others, Wasteland Express is the low man on the totem pole for me.

I own Xia and Firefly and am very happy to have also purchased Outer Rim. It is a little light on content right now, but that obviously will change. I came to this review b/c I'm curious about Wasteland, but yeah, I'm happy with the three I own.

Firefly has to be my favorite, but because it is so ungodly long, and I have never won a game of it, it doesn't get played much. I love the game though. Scorpius Freighter is pretty good as well.

Would you say Broom Service > SWOR and this one?

Not better than SW but in honesty Broom I think falls just outside that Pick up and Deliver genre.
