Landowners are concerned about the future of the Pedernales River after recent filings for wastewater permits at two developments. The permits ask for permission from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to discharge treated wastewater on land near the river.

If they build this treatment plant it will be a disaster. I can already see the stories on how raw sewage was released into the river during flooding events. This is already happening in Houston look it up. The alternative on site treatment for landscaping purposes is SMART good planning by that company.

If you are a concerned lover of the River, please catch up with the Pedernales River Alliance actions to protect against this and more developer dumpster on the docket. There is a June 13th meeting in Fredricksburg for Citizen representation. Just around the corner. Please get involved. We are all on the backfoot with these permits slamming our way!

As long as a waste water system is top notch dispensing the treated water into tanks with indicator organisms, then into the river everything should be fine. Example of such system would be NuWater sewage treatment. From what I seen water from this system can go from treatment plant directly to a bottle for drinking.

Discharge all the waste water back into the local public water system that supplies every house hold. See if TCEQ allows that. If the water is not clean enough for public consumption then the water is not clean enough to be discharged near an ecologically diverse river system that ends up in Austin and ultimately the Gulf of Mexico. These new developments and the problems it brings will ultimately destroy a valuable resource if we allow dumping of waste water into the local environment.
