I am a professional potter from Saga, Japan.
My specialty is Karatsu style "Mishima" technique.
I made two videos to introduce how to make soup cups.
In part 2, I apply white slip and glaze, fire the cups, and apply gold lustre as finishing touch.

Your work is wonderful! I am so intrigued by your mica luster technique. In searching for mica powder on line I see so many different kinds, some of which are plastic. Would you mind sharing the precise kind of powder you use and the name of the supplier? I’m in Mexico, so need an international company. Thank you very much!

Sorry for the late reply. I buy the mica pigment in a local store, and they didn't sell them online. I found something similar on Amazon, but it's a liquid paint type and I've never tried it before. Hope it helps. www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B086DBNBD5/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_4X8EGD4KFMR1HBJC5FC0

Thank you for a lovely video showing your technique. Can you explain the slip you apply after the bisque firing before applying the glaze. Is it the same slip you applied before the bisque. Thank you

Thank you for your comment. Yes. The slip I use after the bisque is basically the same, just slightly thinner.

These are beautiful! What temperature do you fire the mica luster. I’ve never seen that before! これらは美しいです! 雲母の光沢はどの温度で焼成しますか。 今まで見たことがない!

Thank you! I fired them at 800-850℃(1472-1562°F). I hope it will help your work.

Hi again ^^ Your last respond with a link sent me her. I watch it and of course i have several new fresh questions ^o^ : - i found so much different gold mica powder, did you test some before or can you recomand me one specific? - It seem that you use water to disolve the mica gold powder is it right? - Wich temperature did you used after the gold application, you precised low temperature , but i remember on an another of your video something like 800°C but i'm not sure. Again really thank you, you are very inspiring. ^^

Thank you very much. Yes, I am dissolving mica powder in water. I buy it from a local pottery store, so I haven't tried the materials used in your area, but I hope you can find the materials that suit you. This video also covers firing temperatures. Please take a look. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmHQqIOerZ6afpYsi=r9Q8rxqydNAeO26E

@WatajimaPottery

ご視聴ありがとうございます。外側の化粧土は模様が細かく、柔らかい時に施すと模様が潰れることがあるので素焼きしてから化粧土を施してます。
