Africa will move your soul. It's just a good place to be and it feels so right.
Here I am in 2011 with an African American volunteer friend of mine, reflecting on how great it is to be in Namibia, overlooking Angola!

+notdumdum1 Save money and come and visit my wife and I in Accra, Ghana. we can visit the next country Togo - my wife is a native there but we speak same African language - Ewhe. I just got a ticket for my next trip from NY $1000. It can be high but you got to know when to get it in the lean season. I have a music school and a studio. You could stay at home and not in a hotel. I did it for 4 brothers and a sister between 2000 and 2011 and upon their return to the states, they never being the same. I believe it is our duty to act as the pathfinder to those of our folks who are yearning for a path to the motherland. Be blessed.

Yes, it's just apart of your soul that's why your there. I love everything African. Considering the history of the making of America, I'm so sure going to Africa our ancestors would embrace us. No wonder we would feel so great and look so great there. Did your body vibrate or did that bell go off inside of you and your friend when you arrived there? I believe that is your destiny saying "Welcome Home'
@Queenceba29
@Queenceba29 9 жыл бұрын
Hello Vivian, I'm 'the friend' in the video. I didn't feel a bell or anything go off, but I must say that I felt at peace when I was there . Like, being stress free, liberated, welcomed and warm. I haven't been able to recapture that feeling since I've been back in the US. Although I'm with my family again (which is great), it's not the same. Which is why I'm planning on moving to Namibia next year. I would recommend that everyone at least visit the Motherland once. You won't regret it!

I am Congolese from Tanzania and I been in States for four years and I am praying to run back home where people are free. Here they always sing free free but it just a song and not a real thing. There are police in the cities everywhere, too much rules, they want to see everyone is more than normal, their freedom is from books and claim it to be real. But you can't even play music because somebody will call police on you. if you black you can't walk down in street freely or go in the store because they will think you can steal something. So it's very unrealistic life but they push themselves to love it, first because they put it on themselves and they can get all materials things they want but in very hard way that will leave them in debts or die. So Africa will be much better place to live than west in future.

+marty mart If you're strong in what you do, you can get a teaching job. Psychology is missing big time in the classes. First take time to visit the colleges in Nigeria,Ghana ,Kenya. more private colleges being opened up in Ghana and while there in Ghana, you can take a week to visit Lagos or may be eastern Nigeria states and do some inquiries. Or run your own psycho therapy joints. Our people are a bit sick on bad teaching of the world around them due to colonialism. they see themselves thru the lenses of the colonizers and that's the reasons why poverty is so deep even though we walk on gold and diamond literally. YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH YOU COULD BE VALUED. We need to value our shared cultures help each other to grow. We eat with our hands - RIGHT HAND ONLY lol - and give honor to those older than us. There's this large space for A/Americans to operate in but sad they do not know it and it is the duty of some us to let TRUTH be known. WE ALL CAN NOT GROW IF A/Americans DO NOT COME BACK TO HELP BUILD THE HOUSE OF their FOREFATHERS.

If I visit there with my husband and daughter what city would you recommend in Namibia? We like a little bit of city life, nice places to walk, good food, book stories. How expensive is it to stay in the hotel? Thanks
@AfroAmericaninAfrica
@AfroAmericaninAfrica 10 жыл бұрын
Sorry this is so late :/ Windhoek the capital of course :-) If you google hotels in Windhoek like Safari Court Hotel, the Protea hotels or the Hilton for example there is a wide range from $40USD per night to upwards of $100USD per night. Depends on how much luxury you want. The guest houses (e.g. Kavango Guest House) and hostels are of a lower quality but still nice. Aside from Windhoek, I would personally recommend Oshakati/Ongwediva, Opuwo, Rundu, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay which are on the coast, Sossusvlei, Damaraland... there's tons to see :) Bookstores are generally in the capital.

AfroAmericaninAfrica Sounds like an awesome experience. I agree with your comment Africa will move your soul completely. 3 years ago I decided to use my GI Bill benefits to study in Africa and I graduate this year. I recommend for everyone to do something similar as to what you or I have done for a longer stay. People who visit Africa for 1-2 weeks, especially those in full vacation mode really don't step out of their comfort zones enough to experience this beautiful continent. My only regrets though is I didn't document my stay in such a way that you did. Coming from the USA myself, I was much too used to seeing mostly negative images of Africa. However I do thank you for sharing on KZbin to our fellow mankind just how beautiful Africa really is.

That my dear brother has several variances and it ultimately depends on a number of factors like: where you want to go, what you plan on doing, etc. I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and I lived in Namibia for two years but my budget wasn't the ideal one. I will say that I lived on about US$250 per month plus quarterly allowances of about US $300-$350. I was able to save enough money to travel to neighboring countries with that BUT let me mention that I stayed with a host family, so I didn't pay rent.

Queenceba29 How would one make income there? I guess a better question is What is the Job/hiring situation like there? Since you came with the Corps I assume that your ticket was paid for? Where in the U. S. did you come from and are you more content there? I don't have a clue as to where I would want to go. I think that I just want to go home.
@candiceblount7839
@candiceblount7839 10 жыл бұрын
As far as income is concerned, they have the same type of kons there as we do here. There's everything from teaching at a college to construction to restaurants. Just depends on what you're interested in. The two Americans living there that I know are both teachers. And you're correct, my ticket was paid for by Peace Corps and I flew from JFK to Joburg,SA then from.Joburg to Windhoek,NA. I was never fully content there because my family was back here but if I could move my family there with me then moving wouldn't even

Ramsees Jordan, how much money would one need to escape America and come to live in Africa for a year. To put this in perspective let me start off by saying half of Africa already gets by on less than $1.25 usd a day.($500/yr) But of course no one really wants to reduce their comforts to that extent. I'm a University student in Nairobi the capital of Kenya where rents are jacked up as well as everything else. Fellow students from all over Africa take note of high living cost here. Yet my centrally located 2 br apartment is like $280usd / month including utilities. Rents within Nairobi for the same size apartment can be found much cheaper half that or less is typical, just I need to be close to my school. Slum dwellings such as those in Kibera (biggest slum in Africa, 2nd largest in the world) which I have slept in on multiple occasions can be had for just $12 per month. Again a lot of people from developed countries may not feel comfortable here , however in my $280 / month centrally located Nairobi 2br apartment , I think most would find as acceptable dwellings. On top of that I have a wife and 3 daughters. I pay private elementary school fees because public school in Kenya is really a complete failure. Being originally from the USA , I like my fast food including once a week Pizza where we invite friends and fried chicken which we also deem as a necessity once a week. The other 5 days we are more African diet wise lol. Any ways my family of 5 in the expensive Kenyan capital city of Nairobi being in a centrally located nice apartment, not giving up some of my American eating, etc. We get by on just $900 usd / a month. Granted no car and entertainment means just kicking a ball , or playing scrabble with children instead of video games, but hey being active with kids and less video games is better anyways. So I get by on $10,000 /yr and the poster of this video got by $400usd / month being single in Angola. Anyways, if possible you should come to Africa, it will definitely change your life. Good luck.
