Denmark’s Prime Minister proclaimed Frederik X as King after his mother Queen Margrethe II formally signed her abdication.
The country’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Margrethe, stunned the nation on New Year’s Eve when she announced her decision to abdicate after 52 years as queen, becoming the first Danish monarch in nearly 900 years to voluntarily relinquish the throne.
Huge crowds gathered before parliament today to witness King Frederik ascend to the throne.

@carlakohlwes-vp7lt Did you know, that The Crown Prince couple hosted a Royal Dinner for the participants of an official Climate Forum back in 2019? One of the speakers at that Forum was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ( invited due to her Green New deal resolution ). Those policies are main stream here in Denmark. And both our new King Frederik and also Queen Mary has been very outspoken on environmental and climate issues. At that Royal Dinner Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was seated at the table with our new Queen Mary, so in a very prominent position. It almost goes without saying, that they were BOTH very elegantly dressed to the occation. A video from that is still up on the site of our Royal Family, btw.

I think that the British coronation stands in star contrast to this. I think that when the time comes King William and Queen Catherine are going to have some big decisions to be made. I don’t see them going through with that bloated ceremony. It was over the top. When the queen did it she was young and beautiful. Big difference.
