Not crowned! Proclaimed! Denmark hasn't crowned a king in more than three centuries. That was only done when Denmark was still an elective monarchy. All these things are true. I'm very left learning (even by Danish standards), and should be against the monarchy on principle, but I'm not. They are cheaper to use as head of state than a president (in comparison to a country like Finland), are apolitical, and bring a level of cultural unity. They also can and will remind people to keep their heads on straight (like Queen Margrethe did during covid) and are living carriers of old cultural practices that have fallen out of style (some for good reason, but that doesn't mean they should be forgotten).

@mehere8038 Funny thing, an individual who many in the US looove to paint as a "far leftie" has actually been at a Royal Dinner with our new King and Queen. October 2019 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was here as a guest speaker at an Official Climate Forum ( C40 Worlds Mayors Summit ). Because of her Green New Deal Resolution. During the Forum, our then Crown Prince couple hosted a Royal Dinner for the participants. AOC was seated at the table with Crown Princess Mary ( now Queen Mary! ). AOC was very elegantly dressed and represented the US far more dignified, than the former guy in the White House, who had just cancelled an already planned State Visit to Denmark a month earlier ( the buy Greenland debacle! ).

So many errors. HM Queen Mary is the Queen, not Queen Consort. HM Queen Margrethe II reigned for 52 years literally to the day, not 51years as written or over 50 years as said. A monarch is not crowned in Denmark. Last crowning was in 1660. Between 1660 and 1849 they were anointed. And since 1849 they have been proclaimed.

BBC get your facts straight. He has been king from the 14th of January not the 10th. And Her Majesty (former) Queen of Denmark abdicated after 52 years, not 51. A simple and quick google search would've been sufficient

@@sbs330We haven't crowned our monarchs since 1660. When Denmark switched from an elective monarchy to an absolute monarchy. Absolute monarchs were anointed, not crowned. When we switched to a constitutional monarchy it was changed to proclaimed rather than anointed.
@christinaj.jensen48052 ай бұрын
@@Stroyer123 Before that, actually. King Frederik the III was the last King to be crowned, and he came to the throne in 1648 and his crowning was the same year. After he established the absolute monarchy in 1660, it became an anointing ceremony, which was first held in 1671 and the last time in 1840. The proclamations have however been a tradition for centuries before we became a Constitutional monarchy. Before that it was dignitaries who across the country yelled out a window "The King is dead, long live the King". King Christian the IX was the first King to be proclaimed by the Prime Minister in 1863. King Frederik the VII is the only King to neither be crowned, embalmed or proclaimed by the Prime Minister, because he gave up the absolute monarchy shortly after becoming King in 1848.

@@tonyclifton2172 That's really nice to hear :) I'm an Aussie, so it does give me pride that one of the citizens of my country has earnt that respect in another country. She is yours now though, I don't like it when people talk of her as "our Queen Mary" in Australia. When people choose to become Australian citizens, we see them as Aussies, not of their old country, so that has to apply here too, she's moved to your country & adopted it as her own, so she IS yours now. With her coming from a great country like Australia, you would have had to have worked hard & shown her something really amazing in your country to win her heart, so if you can do that (which you obviously well & truly have) then you absolutely deserve to have her as your own & I'm really glad she's managed to live up to your expectations & show herself worthy of respect in your wonderful country. She's clearly something special, as is your country :)
