In my opinion the 2 piece rotors from Z1 are worth it if you have the Sport model, because an overall saving of 30 pounds in rotational mass has a lot of benefits in terms of braking, handling and even acceleration.
@SpeedCultureStudios5 жыл бұрын
Reducing rotational mass definitely has benefits! It’s been shown that it doesn’t help a great deal in straight line drag racing as reduction in time is minimal, but in road courses and overall handling, the benefit is substantial!

In the midst of doing exactly this right now. One major factor to keep in mind is clearance between the larger caliper and wheels. I "upgraded" to aftermarket 19" wheels with a +32 offset, and I still ended up having to add 12mm spacers to get 3-4mm clearance. The stock 17-18" wheels will NOT clear. and some aftermarket wheels will not either.
@SpeedCultureStudios5 жыл бұрын
That is correct. Another element to consider in determining if this upgrade is worth it to you.
@RusserzGaming5 жыл бұрын
It’s mainly for looks. When I was SC my non sport brakes were just fine. I upgraded the discs and pads. It was ok on repetitive stops from over 200kmh, bare in mind I did do a custom cooling duct cause Infiniti failed in that department. Save up your 1600$ and get your 3.7 boosted & for the 3.0T guys, save for the big turbo upgrades ;)

For the average person who speeds not knowing anything about cars, yes these are a must. Once those stock rotors get a heat pocket on them from constant high speed braking; they won’t be expecting it and that’s a really risky situation. So maybe is the average person had big brakes they would be just safer (than usual) in General
@SpeedCultureStudios5 жыл бұрын
That’s possible, but then why don’t all cars have sport brakes? The big Brake Upgrade would definitely not hurt if you have the money! But remember, the factory brakes on the Q50 non-sport are much much better than the average brake system. Still akebono and still dual piston caliper. Upgraded rotors are all most average drivers would need to prevent uneven heating if they do indeed drive their cars really hard. Adding more aggressive pads would make it an even better combination. That $250-300 upgrade is quite sufficient without having to spend $700-$1500 on big brakes which would still be way overkill for the average person. Thanks for chiming in!! And thanks for watching!

@@SpeedCultureStudios I know this video is old but I just got my G37 sport, I’ve been watching a ton of your videos, I really enjoy them and I want to do some supporting mods , & im looking at either the Z1 sport brake upgrade kit which comes with drilled & slotted rotors, ceramic pads, SS lines & motul fluid for $620 or the G37 sport Akebono service kit which comes with standard rotors, ceramic pads & motel fluid for $370. What do you think about these as I already have the sport model? Is the extra $250 worth it for drilled & slotted rotors & SS lines? I’m really having trouble deciding which one to go with. So are the G37S brakes virtually the same as the Q50S brakes? I've been checking Facebook marketplace and have seen used complete G37S brakes kits for around $600-800. If I can find them local on the low end of that I'll jump on it if they fit.

I had to swap my Sport brakes due to warping rotors at 20K miles. I went with Stoptechs and ceramic pads. The braking is better over the sport, which was better than the non-sport. Only issue is the “singing” brakes using ceramic pads. If you’re coming to Philly again, I can recommend you some amazing eats on the cheap (since “bang for the buck” is your whole thing).

Leg, thigh, and breast with a donut all m.t.o. (No heat lamps) for $10.50. Tommy DiNic’s in the Reading Terminal Market has the amazing Italian roast pork sammich. tommydinics.com Forget “Pat’s” and “Geno’s”. The best steak sammiches are at John’s on South Street. There’s also China Town. Several great places for REAL Chinese... just look in the windows till you find one where all the customers are Chinese. (Shaved smoked hog head with soft fried noodles? Hell yes!)

I say its worth the $1000+ because thats for people who want the bbk’s but don’t want the hassle of collecting the parts and don’t trust reman calipers for reason. I also don’t think its worth it because well..$1000 i could put that on a transmission cooler if i have an automatic trans and other bolt ons
@SpeedCultureStudios5 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you’re comparing the $1500 to $600 for reman, but I’d argue that even $600 isn’t worth it when rotors and pads will be plenty for 99% of the guys driving these cars.
@bn42414 жыл бұрын
I'm still trying to wrap my head around to see if I should drop $1.5k for Z1 lightweight rotors. Better cooling, maybe. Reduce unsprung mass, yes. Heck, if the Q50 Sport can do 0 to 60 in 5.1 sec w/heavy rotors + wheels then why am I tripping out lol.
@SpeedCultureStudios4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what your intentions are. First of all-it takes a ton of weight reduction to improve 1/4 mile times-even more to improve 0-60 times. So, the difference in terms of straight line performance, you would not notice. I would say there is a potential to notice handling improvements in corners as long as you had light wheels as well, but that would only be if you were really working the car in the corners. Regular everyday driving-no difference. If you do drive hard on the twisty roads, how often do you do it? If you track the car competitively or regularly hit the mountain roads and really push the car for hours, then sure, make the investment. Otherwise you really won’t feel a benefit from them.
@bn42414 жыл бұрын

Stock VQ37 then I would say no for sure. A slightly better rotor and a more aggressive pad will be sufficient for you. You could go a step further and get stainless lines.
