Even factory Hi-Point mags are known for being pretty iffy. There's tons of discussions and videos about how to fix a bad one by modifying the lips or compressing the springs, etc. It seems to be their weak point, which is pretty common for autoloaders, really. But you get/make a good mag, the guns seem to be as reliable as a gun gets.

@@alexanderellis286 Any new gun can fail, and hurling something into the air is about the least-scientific thing you can do to torture-test something, because it all depends on how it lands and what it lands on. Even Matt says in a later vidio that this wasn't a good test. Not to mention that he didn't disassemble it to see what failed, and Hi-Point's warranty is so good they probably would have fixed it for free, anyway. But I know that Hi-Point haters love to hate them. It just annoys me that they hate them for the wrong reasons.

@@theminingassassin16 Extended magazines often cause issues as many pistols are not typically designed to use them. Also most extended mags for Hi Point are made by Pro Mag which are cheap and low quality. Feeding issues are often magazine related and he didn't bother to try the standard factory magazine to see if that solved the issue and while I don't care for Hi Point guns there are tons of videos showing how they are tough and reliable. Basically he made no effort to provide a fair comparison (in my opinion) and he didn't even know why the gun was built with a heavy slide and just assumed it was because they used cheap steel. I don't own and never will buy a Hi Point but there is no reason to purposefully shit on a gun many people who can't afford better rely on for home defense.

@@SaneNoMore I see. In Matt's defense, in his first video involving a Hi-Point (here's a link, if you haven't seen it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/raG9lYidd9-bbbs ), he does show how fairly tough and reliable the gun is, and even seems impressed with it. So I think his hatred towards Hi-Points comes from the fact that he just doesn't like guns that he finds uncomfortable (as in, they don't feel good in the hand, feel clunky, don't run smoothly, or all of the above). I'm not saying that his judgement is fair, but I can see why he doesn't like Hi-Points. Granted, I've never owned a gun in my life, so I wouldn't really know a good gun from a crap gun. For anyone interested, the real reason Hi Points have such large obnoxious slides is because they use a true blow back action. The slide has to be heavy as hell to make sure the breech stays closed long enough for the barrel to depressurize to a safe level. Most modern handguns utilize some form of locking breech action to achieve this. The Glock for instance uses a tilt lock designed by gun god himself, John Moses Browning. As far as I know, Hi Point is the only modern pistol to use a straight blow back action while chambered in 9mm and above. Blow back actions are typically extremely reliable and common in PCCs. That being said, they have a stiffer recoil impulse than most other actions due to the large amount of mass moving straight backwards.

I’ve noticed some of the other commenters have also said this, but you’ve already pointed out that the High Point is a cheaper version of the standard semi automatic. You know how semi automatics feed their ammunition into the chamber: with that in mind, why would you put a 16 round extended magazine into something that’s designed to use seven or eight? Of course, it’s going to jam: there’s too much pressure pushing straight up into the chamber. Additionally, if you are a Glock fan, you should know better than to over-oil your gun.

I own a C9 and I can say, both factory and aftermarket mags are Hi Points' biggest issue. It's very easy to fix the mags though, you just have to adjust the spring a bit and it runs like a charm. Mine almost never jams now and is as accurate as can be. Also keeping the mags loaded for a week to break in the spring works wonders. 10/10 would recommend if it is all you can afford.

Blowback actions require massive slides. A 20mm autocannon would need a slide weighing 500-pounds. I can't believe Hi-Point made one as large as 45 ACP... these things are usually chambered in nothing larger than .22, .25 and maybe .380. I picked up up a .45 Hi-Point because the seller needed a couple of bucks and for me it was a novelty... not that I needed another gun. It is as heavy as a cordless drill and has the balance - or imbalance, of one. All that said, the big auto functions as flawlessly as my Colt, Glocks and others. So long as you use hardball loadings it's virtually jam proof.
