Great information thanks. I have heard good things about EGW. I recently ordered their Talley style scope mount rings for my Henry Big Boy Model X chambered in 360 BH

Odd, the 45-70 base is made by EGW for Henry.

@@mopar21 The two I got were obviously cheap Chinese counterfeit ones made in sand molds and then powder coated. EGW has never made products that crappy as I’ve been buying from them for a long time. Maybe they supply Henry Pride now. At least I hope they do!

I got the same scope mount, directly from Henry. It has the same imperfection (not flat) on the rifle side. I decided to stick with the iron sights.

I ended up selling the gun for a profit. It shot very well and after putting on a good scope rail, I had it dialed in really well at 50 yards. I know it can do further but that was all I would have used it for. Easy sell.

@@Kornholeeoo I went the opposite direction. Now I have three Henry rifles. A Long Ranger in 6.5cm, and two 44mags. A 16" one that I mentioned earlier, and a 20" one all kitted out in Ranger Point gear.

You got to loosen it up and the red dot should fit flush.

That didn’t happen. I had to file out paint and metal to get it to fit. I threw it in the trash and bought an EGW rail and now everything works perfectly.

That's pretty sad, I'd seen the different mounts available through Henry, and while I have a natural skepticism in general by having been the victim of poor QC from different companies, I'm a little shocked at just how BAD that mount is. My guess is these mounts are made by an outside manufacturer with an emphasis on quantity and unit cost over QC.

I think you are 100% correct! ✅ I’ve bought a lot of stuff off eBay and Amazon over the years. Back up iron sights comes to mind. Made out of what most would call pot metal. It’s a hodgepodge of scrap metals tossed together and heated and poured into a mold. The metal is not refined. And it is usually brittle. Tons of stuff like this comes from China. And the paint gives it away as well. Thick with runs. This is what this mount looks like. I do not believe it was made in the USA. And it comes from HenryPride website. Not HenryUSA.

Does the EGW rail labeled for Big Boys work on the model X as well??

I’m not sure. I believe there is a difference with the X models. Write EGW and ask them. They probably have one for the X models. Their parts are light years better too. Real anodized and not a painted part or powder coated. The EGW part was perfect out the box.

So you bought the Weaver mount instead of the Picatinny, filed the grooves to Picatinny width, and blamed Henry. FYI, the reason some red dots work and some don't is because some have hybrid mounts that work on Weaver or Picatinny.

No. This was by far the worst part I’ve ever bought for any gun. It’s made from a sand mold that wasn’t even polished. Then powder coated making the tolerances worse. I tried many other mounts to go on it with limited success. I’ve bought pot metal parts on Amazon from China that were better than this. Get an EGW rail and compare the 2. Like a Bentley parked next to a parted out Yugo. The rail wouldn’t even sit flush on top of the gun! Had to sand it first and the screws would barely fit through the holes. Forget sanding out the groves, I had to sand it just to mount it on the gun. Don’t make excuses for junk parts.
