great review! from your previous impressions how do you think the bugs 8 compares with the bugs 3?
@dmayniak6 жыл бұрын
The bugs 8 has 2206 motors and does acro, the 6 is 1806 non acro. Don' knock the drone, you got something in the motor a small piece of dirt. Or a chip off the motor. She is right about the motor, these motors shouldn't be made out of plastic, the magnets need not support do they don't chip.. or, don't crash it. Ever lol Love the channel, not impressed with your opinion if this drone.. it's a great beginner fpv, independent modular construction.. let's you slowly upgrade into kiss esc's, then upgrade motors, maybe get real inventive and a new FC and all on the same frame. You can use this drone to piece a pro drone together slowly.

That's what it seems like, I've got a bugs 6, I love it! Never had an issue! Crashed it once due to my own fault, no damage what so ever. Best brushless beginner buy for me :). I just brought the basic version with no camera for $77 USD. For the money, the quality of this is unbeatable in my opinion. This video has helped me decide to buy the stock camera/ FPV system for this, was thinking I should buy aftermarket but after knowing the stock set up is great I will just order that, thanks guys :)

Regarding the motor lock-up....could it have picked up a piece of something from one of the ground crashes ? the clearance between the rotor and stator is quite close, and something could have gotten lodged between them, and your manipulation might have dislodged it and freed it up again.
@PerrynBecky7 жыл бұрын
+James Burba, I didn't see your comment until after I posted mine, but I agree totally. A single grain of sand, a small flake of bark, a tiny piece of leaf, anything that gets jammed between the stator and the housing is enough to stop rotation.
@robertgaudet74077 жыл бұрын
Watch all the way through folks, the conclusion changes by the end. Reminds me of my first hard crash with my V977, had to resolder the tail motor in and it was the day I'd opened the box. I feel better about the chopper now. Just don't fly fast tail first into second story walls above concrete and you're all-right. And then the moment I thought I'd burned out the motor, but actually just had to push the main gear back all the way onto the rotor shaft. First you think your rc aircraft is crap but then you realize it's actually a built-in self-preservation feature or something like that.

Why on heavens earth did they change the motors. The bugs three rocks and very durable. Great review and you give a honest real world view of it. I not convinced that this is a step up . The motors are a easy fix, when they lock, or start to click, open them up (5 screws on the bottom, then remove the c-clip in the middle on the bottom of the rotor shaft and then the three washers. Pull the motor in half, magnets and bucket with the shaft, and coils and mounting plate) pull out the obstruction (usually a chip of broken magnet wedged between the magnets and the coils, it will be small and stuck to the inner parts of the motor. (symptoms: locked up motor or clicking grinding sound when you spin it) usually happens when you crash it pretty good due to the plastic to half and the easy to crumble properties of the magnet, not getting enough support from the plastic it chips real easy. But there 1806 brushless. Just get new motors and the prob is gone, or keep pulling the chips out.
@gdhall53117 жыл бұрын
Good review and flight guys, always remember to re calibrate your quad after a crash. I think that the quad is a good one maybe you just got one with a defective motor or dirt in it as others have suggested. I have flown mine quite a few times and have not had any problems at all.

Enjoyed watching review on Bugs 8... I wondered immediately if you had not allowed enough time between battery change-out for cool-down. The long flight time on bugs batteries can create lots of heat. I know they are brush less motors but... I have two bugs 3 (red and black). No motor problems yet. (the housing is metal) Bugs 6 is on the way. Plan on using my own goggles so just bought drone with camera. Paid less than $95 on Banggood with flash sale and coupon. Wow! Will let you know if have any of the same troubles. TC
@FunkFPV7 жыл бұрын
I'll bet you over heated the ESC flying back to back packs. Shouldn't happen but god knows what they put in there. The motor getting stiff and twitching is a sure sign of a shorted winding. More then likely a FET in the ESC got stuck closed and reset after you unplugged it or cooled down.

I generally build my quads. I was having issues with one quad constantly losing a motor. I replaced several and even an ESC. Turns out, the very thin motor wires were breaking. I'd like to see more investigation of the motor problem. As others have said it could be a faulty motor or could have been jammed up by debris or could have over-heated. I like the honesty of your reviews in general but I think this needs a follow-up so we all know exactly what happened. Does that make sense?

Another excellent review and I like the way you give an honest appraisal, always pointing out weaknesses and possible problems. I assumed brushless motors were better, but I agree that cost cutting and using plastic in place of metal (and surely the additional cost would be minimal for adding this to the motor components) is not good for the consumer. Keep up the good work and best wishes to you both :)

Well that was interesting. I've been having fun with my new Bugs 3, but the camera for it hasn't come out yet! I stuck a lousy TX01 on it, just ordered a TX03, see if that's better. Yes, those plastic motor housings are suspicious, seems like the wrong place to save a few manufacturing pennies. Maybe just get a Bugs 3, they are under $100 now (without any camera). If you can get to fly the Bugs 6 more it would be interesting to hear if that motor seizes up again, but I have to think it will. And I hate flying expecting the aircraft to fall out of the sky any second.

Have you compared the range between the Bugs 6 and Bugs 3? My Bugs 6 flew out of range just after getting a single beep range alert. It did not respond and kept flying and crashed 100m away. With the Bugs 3 I could always control it when I got the beep. I feel the Bugs 3 can fly a larger distance. And possibly the Bugs 6 alarm comes up when the quad it is too close to the point of no return. Result, no visible damage, but 3 motors would not spin. I could only find spares for the Bugs 3. I ordered a basic B6 instead for 67 USD and use the crashed one for spares. I really like how it flies, but I feel it may be less reliable than the B3. I would love if you guys did a test in a large field. Where I was there was public wifi, I am wondering if that may have caused interference.

Sometimes you can turn the quad upside down and gently work the motor back and forth the allow the sand/dirt to fall outta the windings. Can't go overkill, just be easy.
@TheRcSaylors7 жыл бұрын
A lot of people are suggesting dirt here, and I honestly don't think it was dirt because it wasn't grinding around or anything when I turned the motors. I didn't hear any sand or feel any hard resistance.. it was very steady resistance if that makes any sense, almost like some putty got in there or something, or like Super Thick Grease.

Hi from Down Under! Another great review showing your total honesty with the products you showcase. Apart from heat dissipation, I don't know if there is any real disadvantage in using plastic housings in brushless motors, seems a lot of people are experimenting with them at the moment, and if weight can be saved and production costs reduced, might be a bit of a win in pricing, performance and flight times? Just a thought. Another point, if the product is in the US $200 mark, surely if it is faulty, a refund or replacement would be in order. Anyway, I will be (as always), looking forward to your next video, keep up the great work!

Oh man. That's a real shame with the motors. Other than a teeny tiny 20 dollar micro, I was debating whether to get a Bugs 3 or 6 as my first 'real' drone. Decided to go with the older 'tested and proven' 3. Looks like I made the right call! I wasn't even aware cheap plastic housing for brushless motors was even a thing. Eventually, later down the line I'll probably grab this one too, can't argue that at least aesthetically it looks so much more pleasing. Can't imagine what the flight time this beastie would have with an upgraded s3 battery. Thank you for the review, other than the ants it definitely looked like it was a blast to fly.

nothing inherently wrong with plastic motor rotor, it's just something to hold the magnets in place around the rim and those magnets are the propulsion force just by themselves. plastic is lightweight! the lightweight is easier to balance. in the video you picked up debris inside the motor rim, no biggy it happens all the time. btw, note how much of automobiles are plastic today? my guess 20%. anyway, these bugs series are fantastic copters with the bugs 2 probably being the all time best, imo. your videos are great, really enjoy watching, thanks for all the work needed to make them and post them.

Also, thank you for the kind words my friend!

I'm guessing there was some debris in the motor causing it to drag, you flipped the quad and rotated the motor several times by hand, I'll bet what ever was in there fell out freeing up the motor.

Maybe the flight time worked against you for the motor to go bad?

RC saylors who won the 80k sub giveaway? And when is or was it?

Very informative, just bought a 6. Can't wait to fly it, carefully.

Not sure if you've heard, but the motor problem is caused by a bad bearing(s), possibly caused by the tree impact. I'm not sure what the company is doing to resolve this. MIne's been fine so far. You might give Drocon or MJX an email or call and let folks know how they handle this.

Piece of something fell from the tree, dirt? Did it continue to fly with that motor?
@TheRcSaylors7 жыл бұрын
You might think so based on it's reaction, but check this video out - kzbin.info/www/bejne/anbEpWCQfdVlosk This will help narrow things down for ya ;)

No Popeye?! And what is that "Frisbee thing"? Nice review , have you figured out what happened to the motor yet? Thanks again Saylors :)

Excellent flying Nate & Abby!! I agree with Ryan on that with dirt getting into the motor :)
@TheRcSaylors7 жыл бұрын
You would think so the way it looked but it didn't act like dirt got in there. It almost acted like it got into some thick grease or something, then suddenly it just loosened back up!

TheRcSaylors Good point there too. Glad it's working again

Thanks, appreciate another good video and review. This is not a racer by any means, a flip button, angle mode, only a 2S battery. Doesn't seem even really good practice for real racing being stuck in angle mode all the time. So yeah maybe good for the start of learning and getting used to FPV, but you will only build bad habits trying to race this.

Hi TheRcSaylors, just wondering is the fpv screen to small to use or is it a good size as I am a beginner to fpv
@TheRcSaylors7 жыл бұрын
It's the perfect size for the goggles, though a bit small when on your transmitter. Trust me, after a few flights with it on your tx, you will only want to wear the goggles :-)
