I haven’t gotten through your video yet, but I saw some wild prices on Mercari. Someone selling an entire quilt for $45 and a ton of just tops for $30 and under. Not sure what the heck she’s thinking lol. A jelly roll alone costs that. 😅

Oh I know! I learned REAL QUICK, Mercari and Ebay are not good choices lol It hurts my soul to see those quilts sold so cheap! haha!!

Another thing to consider is what your state sales tax regulations are. We had a client who had a store via Shopify, etc and just did NOT understand that just because shopify took sales tax for purchases (which she never set up correctly, either), they didn't pay the sales tax to the state for her. And then you have to consider what needs to be recorded for your annual tax returns. ((which you may have on deck for a future video.. but it's still something to make sure is not 'forgotten' until it's too late.
@StitchObsessed6 ай бұрын
Yep! The taxes side of it all is quite intimidating at first. I’m in no position to give actual tax advice , but I will mention in future videos to do your research and make sure you’re checking your specific state for requirements.

Found you in recommendations from your previous Etsy video and subscribed, another great video, thanks 🙂 Congrats on your studio building looking forward to more footage on the project, I’m sure it’ll turn out wonderful! If you’re set on minisplits just make sure it’s on a blank wall that has no outlets/furniture beneath it. Whenever they get dirty/have issues/clog all the water/condensation dumps inside the house. Lotsss of water. Thankfully I had tile but it still wrecked my walls, since you’re planning wood I def wanted to give you caution with them. If humidity isn’t bad where you are you could prob get away with a portable unit, much cheaper and less labor. Minisplits are fantastic with electric bill but require a lot of voltage and most hvac people are uselessss. If we were in Russia I’d say go for it but 99% of hvac people in FL don’t even know how to work on them. Don’t wanna be a buzzkill on em - you’ve helped me with your videos I wanna help you 😂💕 wish you much luck!!

Just found your channel recently and signed up for the waitlist :) This may seem like a dumb question, but I would like to sell quilt patterns, and as a very not-techie person, was wondering how do you actually create a pattern that you can sell, either physical copy or PDF?
@StitchObsessed6 ай бұрын
Not dumb at all! So for actually coming up with a pattern design, I use EQ8 software, but you don’t have to use that. You could literally use paper and pencil. Then when I’m actually writing the pattern, I use Canva (this is a free website that you can use to create all kinds of things like social media posts and PDFs.) I’m planning on making some videos on this in the future, or maybe I should do a Zoom call for this as well 🤔
@jilbertb6 ай бұрын
Sounds like you need to brush up on your computer skills, if creating a PDF is new to you. I like EQ8, and it does everything for you, all you do is build the quilt on screen using their blocks or your own. It costs about $250.

@@StitchObsessed Thanks for the quick reply! I have EQMini, and have considered upgrading to the full version. Mostly I am a pencil and graph paper person :) I appreciate the help!

@@jilbertb You are right, I DO need to improve my computer skills. At this point though it is more not being sure what exactly I need to brush up specifically! :)

Good morning from Scotland. Given that I am across the proverbial 'pond', there will be a time difference for that zoom call I just signed up to (looked too interesting to pass up). Will the call be recorded if I cannot make it live or can you tell me about when it might be so I can prepare lots of caffeine-infused beverages??? Thanks for this info; trying to get a small business going here with Harris Tweed fabrics (all made where I live) and this is very helpful!! Have a super rest of the day!
@StitchObsessed5 ай бұрын
Hello! So exciting you’re working on starting a new business! 👏🏻 so I haven’t figured out an exact date and time yet, but I will tell it will probably be around 6pm CST, possibly on a weekend. I will reach out via email soon with more info. And yes, I am planning on having it recorded and it sent out to everyone just in case you miss the live 💖 if you know you won’t be able to make the live, I’ll also take questions ahead of time that I can answer during the call.

Thank you for getting the zoom call together. I was on Etsy for a few yrs - life changes happened and had to shut it down- actually closed them -not sure if they are still there. Do you know how I can check? Trying to remember if a business number is needed.

Hmmm, I think you just need to sign in to your account using the email and password you used to create an Etsy account.

It would be interesting to know how long you had to wait before you got your first order from Etsy.
@StitchObsessed5 ай бұрын
Yeah! I actually just went back and looked cuz I was curious too! 😂 I got my first sale less than a month after opening my shop, though that sale was a super simple zipper pouch. I hadn’t started doing custom quilts yet. So my first sale was in July 2017 and I didn’t do my first custom quilt till February 2018. I had sold a few baby quilts between those dates, and at some point (I think around October 2017) I created the “custom quilt” listing.

I make bags, like grocery bags and would like to sell them. I have looked on Etsy. Some prices are ridiculously low, there is not profit there and this is not helpful for other sellers…..
