Great video! I just ordered the Antila RGB today. Its exactly what i was looking for -- a way to image "everything" with my ASI585MC camera i look at including galaxies and reflection nebula and emission nebula but better than just a light pollution filter, one focused on getting 3 colors, and here it is, and its affordable!

I typically don’t use my DSLR or even my Mirrorless for Astro anymore. I do have a video comparing my Nikon Z72 to a OSC Astrocam. I tried to really only shoot in monochrome these days because the results are just that much better and with it being seemingly cloudy this year because of El Niño it’s tough to give up when I know the results won’t be as good. DSLRs are great for when you get started and don’t want to have to invest additional $$ into an astrophotography camera but if you stay in the hobby long enough to where you use a cooled monochrome camera or even a cooled OSC. You’ll find that your DSLR won’t be getting that much use for this kind of stuff anymore. I like it for Milky Way, and landscape photography still more because of the ability to quickly frame shots and change angles though.

Hey, sir! Enjoyed the video, sub’d. I’m pretty new to the hobby, and am getting to the point that I’m going to get a filter. I’ve been researching and looking around, and there are a ton of options. I recently began to pay more attention to Antlia, particularly this tri-band. I’ve actually been debating between it and a couple of the Optolong options. Your work here certainly helps to narrow the playing-field, and I think I’m leaning more towards the tri-band as a first filter, and maybe “only”, for a while. The conditions you tested in are very similar to my current conditions here in Oklahoma. Bortle 6, not 5, but close. And, although it’s going to change, moon is about 65-70% right now. At any rate, just wanted to say thanks for the work you put into this. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. I’ll finish this one up, and I wish you the best with your growing channel. Will see what we can do to help support! 👍 Hey, all. Let’s hit the subscribe button and push this channel onward and upward! Too easy!

I do own several Optolong and Antlia filters and tend to prefer the quality and design of Antial if that helps I’m not affiliated with either and Agena sells both so you can use my links for either brand. I say that only to say I have no bias or incentive to recommend one over the other. Either way welcome to the hobby and welcome to the DRI community :)

The tri-band would complement that filter well. You could either use the Ha data from the xtreme and combine in for an HARGB. Or you could get better RGB stars with the tri-band and add them to your images shot with the extreme.

Nice! Obviously, if you can budget for it, having a combination of filters is best I’m curious to see how good those do at isolating, the S to signal. I’ve been shooting mostly narrowband and doing videos on mono chrome… I know more people shoot color and I thought if you can only have one filter or want to combine one with others this was a really good option especially for the price it’s tough to beat under $200

Love the channel Ryan, keep going mate! Im relatively new to Astro (1Yr) and Im just starting to research filters so this is great. I want to make sure I get the right one as they are pretty expensive down here in Australia. I'm still using my stock Canon dslr under bortle 5 skies using an Askar 65PHQ so not sure which filter would be best for me as my first purchase. I guess it also comes down to targets too as you mention in your video. If you or anyone has any advice for me Id be very appreciative. Cheers Si

Hi. I purchased this Antila RGB filter to get my RGB with a monochrome camera. I put the filter in a ZWO drawer in front of my filter wheel and I took shots with the RGB filters & the Antila RGB under sky B7 and I was disappointed with the results since the image came out too noisy. It did not outperform my Optolong CLS filter using the same procedure to obtain my RGB. It was very sad as I expected too much from this Antila RGB filter. Clear skies
@darkrangersinc
@darkrangersinc Ай бұрын
That’s not the correct use of this RGB filter. You should not be using it to get your RGB data in your monochrome. That’s not the filters fault you’re just using it incorrectly. You need to have a separate R, G, and B filter for that. You could potentially use it for your luminance filter. But you would never successfully get RGB channels out of a monochrome camera with this. Also, am I reading this right that you put a filter in front of a filter? that’s also not a great idea and would explain why you’re getting noisy images. You filtering out a lot of the signal and you’re just causing an unnecessary restriction in light flow.

Hi! Excellent video, thank you very much for uploading it. I shoot with a monochrome camera (ZWO ASI 1600 and Atik 414Ex with a William Optics FLT91) in LRGB from B2 skies but I have to travel hours to get to that sky and I can't always go. I would like to shoot from home in sky B7-8 in LRGB. I have the Astronomik CLS-CCD filter for the L channel but for the RGB, can I use this Antila tri band filter in front of my filter wheel to get the RGB? Or do you recommend the new Antila quad? I would greatly appreciate your suggestions please. Thank you so much.

I have a Quadband on the way and am going to do some testing so maybe hold off for right now so I can give you a concrete answer. Are you wanting to use the Triband for monochrome RGB, or is this for a different camera?

Thanks for your answer. My camera is monochrome. I have an Astronomik 31mm filter mounted on my filter wheel and it is CLS but only for the L channel. I want something similar to be able to shoot in RGB. I don't know if it works to put this Antila filter or the new quad in front of my filter wheel when using my RGB filters separately to obtain my color shots. Thank you so much!@@darkrangersinc
@darkrangersinc
@darkrangersinc 8 ай бұрын
@@elbagre71 you will have to get three separate filters to shoot RGB, you can’t use one filter. It’s a good question I understand why it would seem like you can do that. But unfortunately, with monochrome camera, you can’t use one filter to produce three different color channels. It’s primarily for Color Cameras. Antlia does say on their website you can use these as a luminous filter, but it sounds like you already have that so I would recommend looking at Antlias RGB filters as they are a pretty good value for a high-quality product. For 36 mm they are only a few hundred dollars but perform like filters that cost much more.

@@darkrangersincThank you for your answer....maybe I didn't explain myself well. I already have a set of ZWO R-G-B filters mounted on my filter wheel. My question is whether putting the Antila triple or quad filter in front of my filter wheel can help remove light pollution. For example, I want to select filter B on my filter wheel and in front of it is the Antila filter and take my shots of channel B and the same for R and G. Is this a good idea and if so, which would be better: the quad or triple ? Thank you!

M31 Galaxy would be awesome at 416mm. Really any of the summer nebula targets right now. North America, Veil, Elephant Trunk, sH2-115, Obviously Clamshell, this was shot at 432mm. My IG is the same name and the last 20 images or so are all shot at 432 or 540mm with an APSC sensor. I even did M101 at 540 and it turned out pretty good. If you have enough exposure time you can crop in you just need a lot of data.

I found the triband filter to be a good luminance filter in light polluted skies. It unfortunately doesn't compete in my opinion against high quality dual band filters + sii filters when you wish to split the reds of ha and sii to make SHO images - which the triband will not be able to make.
@darkrangersinc
@darkrangersinc 11 ай бұрын
Agree totally different use cases. For someone who just is looking to get one filter to do all targets or to add to existing Dual Narrowband for an HaRGB it’s great. I just added my 5 hours of mono data I mentioned to the RGB image and it was a cool combination I couldn’t get with just a set of Narrowband filters. Beginners need something simple and this fits the bill with its flexibility and people who are advanced can always use an RGB look to pair with other filters. I typically don’t even shoot color but when I do I think it’s a great filter to have in the arsenal.

The images of the clamshell are done using only the tri-band and I was comparing it to a couple other filters, because this one kind of fills the gap between a broad spectrum light pollution filter, and a dual narrow band filter. I do show 2 images (each) behind me when I’m talking about the L-pro and L-ultimate filter… those images we’re done with the filter I’m talking about at the time they appear. But the main subject of the video (Clamshell) both versions were done using the Triband. Hope that clarifies, thank you for watching much appreciated and clear skies!

good review, made my decision on this. but cmon... "it not only let more good light in .." No. the light is always the same, filter only BLOCKS light of particular wavelenghts ;) So your background is darker, so your nebulosity/galaxy is more visible. Have great day!
@darkrangersinc

Blocking light of certain wavelengths is allowing less light to hit the sensor. I can’t tell if you’re being facetious since your follow up comment proved the point. The sensor reacts to photons the more photons that hit a pixel the more electrical current it transmit until it hits its full well depth the only way for a sensor to have darker signal with a filter is for it to block the photons from hitting pixel and not registering much signal
