What Illmac said regarding watching basketball comparably to battles is very accurate. IDGAF about football one bit, but if I watch the Super Bowl I can get into it. I know maybe two rules, and the general idea, but I can tell if they do something good or wrong often times. I don't need to know the game to appreciate it. Most people don't appreciate lyrics, in general, because they're not writers. Writers look at writing significantly more different, and it skews our perception of what is good/bad compared to a non-writer. In both good and bad ways - you can catch good writing the non-writers wouldn't, but it could still fall flat to anyone who isn't a writer. On the other hand you could think something is bad from a writing perspective that's generally good otherwise, as well as being "bored" or desensitized to good writing (especially if you're a good writer yourself) like Nocando for instance.
