For the folks out there who don't know, Marmite is one of the few products that has actually spawned a popular phrase. If someone or something is considered "Like Marmite" it means you love it or hate it. No middle ground. People who eat Marmite do not just sort of like it, they love it. People who do not like it, do not just dislike it, they hate it..

Totally agree. Vegimite is actually better. My Aussie mates certainly prefer it over marmite. Though if they can’t get Vegemite, they are grateful for marmite!😄 But my total favourite is bovril. Two reasons, firstly and mainly it makes the most delicious drink that the others can’t do and is really beefy which I prefer to just salty. So it has a more umami flavour, I think. But mostly because it’s actually incredibly good at healing irritable gut. It contains the proteins your gut lining needs that are in bone stock that help to repair leaky gut that results from gluten intolerance which I get.. so it goes really well with a gut friendly diet.

Just love Bill Nighy! Just to be clear, Canada has NEVER banned the importation of Marmite. It's almost always in stock at most supermarkets (at least in the Greater Toronto Area). Unfortunately, they only stock the 'baby' size. And (strangely) it's always shelved alongside baking supplies. Likely because Marmite's a yeast product so they shelve it with other yeast products. There was a shortage a couple of years ago. But that was due to problems in the UK with the supply of brewers yeast. And yes, Vegemite is good, too. It tastes weird on first sampling, especially to those of us addicted to Marmite. But that's just because Vegemite has celery extract in it. And we're just not used to tasting celery in a spread (or pretty much anything else, right?). But once you check the ingredients and realize what the strange taste is, it actually tastes pretty good.
