Right now, the latest data shows that we have over 10 million job openings in the U.S. but only 5.7 million unemployed workers. The Chamber of Commerce says that employers added 4.5 million jobs in 2022 but at the same time, millions of U.S. workers have left the labor force with nearly three million fewer Americans participating in the labor force today compared to February 2020. @@GreggWalken-xd3qv SSI provides crucial assistance to disabled, blind, or elderly individuals with limited income and resources. The loss of this financial assistance could lead to an increase in poverty rates among these populations, potentially resulting in homelessness, inadequate nutrition, and limited access to essential medical services. If food stamps, were eliminated, it would have severe consequences for individuals and families who depend on this assistance for access to nutritious food. Without food stamps, vulnerable households with limited income would face difficulty in affording an adequate and consistent food supply. This could lead to higher levels of malnutrition, hunger, and negative impacts on physical and mental health. I do agree with you that people depend too much on government assistance. To be fair, she probably meant 1.9 jobs for every American who is _able_ to work (so, no children, no seniors, no long-term sick or disabled people, etc.). I still doubt the figure, but it’s much more reasonable than it seems, especially if you keep in mind that just because the 1.9 jobs exist doesn’t mean the 1 American is qualified for them. That is why Hawley is so insistent on „blue collar workers“, because most of those 1.9 jobs will need an education that is not held and/or attainable for the workforce over 40.
