Watch & Knife Review: G. Gerlach Tokkotai & Higonokami

This is a review video for both a watch and a pocket knife. First I review the G. Gerlach Tokkotai watch, a recent remake of the Japanese pilot watch from WW2. After that I review the traditional Japanese Higonokami pocket knife, an antique style friction folder.

The Japanese inscription on the buckle just says Tokkotai in Japanese, which means 'Special Attack Squad', the official name for the kamikaze pilot squads.

Nice video, always a pleasure to see you in my subscription stream. I just checked out the knife on Amazon and it's very affordable. The steel is indeed Hitachi blue steal (aogami), with warikomi style construction. This is a type of laminated blade in which the steel used for the cutting edge is clad on three sides by a softer steel. And I believe that for this type of steel from Hitachi, the term blue simply refers to the color of the paper that the steel is delivered in to knife makers, not to any kind of bluing/case hardening process.
