I see the pre-question speaking by the moderators more as contextualization, to sort of clarify for the debaters what the focus of their response should be, but also (maybe primarily) for the benefit of the viewers, many/at least some of whom are not super up to date with current issues/news. But just looking through the topics it's no wonder they wanted to rush through the first few issues: 1-Iran (Republican friendly) 2-Climate Change (D) 3-Immigration (R, but deportation/separation focus which is the least friendly to R) 4-Economics (R) 5-Past gaffes (R, only coz Vance has had practice answering for his) 6-Abortion (D) 7-Gun Control (D) 8-Housing (Neutral) 9-Healthcare (slight D) 10-Childcare (D) 11-Democracy (D) 12-Closing Statements (N) Unsurprisingly the liberal media says Walz "found his feet" after a while with such favorable ground, although Vance more than held his own and landed some good hits even then.

Yeah, when I heard that I cringed. It was a shot in the dark. Because what he actually really said was that there was no first amendment protection for misinformation. And we’re all very aware of how much “misinformation” got censored online that turned out to be true.

@JanseriaАй бұрын
@@ariadne538 I’m glad you asked. Allow me to defend that remark. Sorry for being so verbose, but this is important. I’ll give you a link below to a full interview on MSNBC with Walz. You can watch the entire interview if you like, because I want you to know I’m not trying to hide anything, but I will tie two points together here because there is much in between them that can make it seem that one has nothing to do with the other. And they are inextricable. This part is important because it ties in and is part of his “misinformation” remarks. About the 1:45 mark he complains of “misinformation” surrounding Covid, Jan 6th, etc. I’m just going to address Covid here, because this would be even longer otherwise. While he doesn’t say what that misinformation was in regard to Covid, we do know many, many people were banned or censored at multiple social media sites AT THE BEHEST OF GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES for suggesting that Covid was accidentally released from a Wuhan lab, they were banned or censored for suggesting the death counts were inaccurate, they were banned or censored for suggesting ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine may be helpful, there were many other reasons for getting banned or censored. By the time this interview aired, there was vindication for many of who were banned or censored and much of that information was correct. He doesn’t confirm or deny that vindication. (They also censored info about Hunter’s laptop) At about the 3:30min mark he’s asked about misinformation about voting. Like, someone telling people the wrong day for the election. He takes it a step further and states that is now a “massive” problem and calls it actual “intimidation” at the ballot box. Then at the 4:00min mark is when he says there is no free speech guarantee for misinformation or hate speech. He declines to say whether there should be punishment, as was asked. Everyone’s question is, “Who gets to determine what is ‘misinformation’ or ‘hate speech’?” Especially considering the massive banning and censorship that occurred during Covid being pushed by government. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2nRpGpsh6igjdU
