I demand jury nullification and/or letting him off on a technicality. Note: R&D is not a free-market mechanism in the US. Taxpayers fund the lion's share of it while corporations benefit from it through the patent system. Once a new drug, for instance, is developed, the pharma corporation that buys the patent for that drug will have a monopoly on making and distributing it, but they almost certainly paid zero for the actual R&D that led to the discovery.
