Okay, love this idea some much, that I have gone for it and have transferred all my orchids to this system. I am very good at keeping to the water schedule when in bark. So should not be a problem with the keeping up with it. I'm super excited, and can't wait to see the outcome. Thanks for the wonderful videos. Your orchids always look beautiful.

You might want to try my simi-water culture with gravel method. Use aquarium gravel, add 1 1/2" - 2" inches of gravel to bottom of vase, fill water to top of gravel level. This method allow root tip to touch wet gravel but doesn't submerge root in water therefore preventing root rot. This method allow constant humidity due to evaporation, but you still need to mist the root every few days. I think you should test out this method for yourself and see how it is.....try it!

I've got a tiny little orchid I've had for a long time & need to repot? I've pretty much been just watering it once a week mind of like you just did but now I know to clean out the roots. It has to have a bigger pot so it's not blooming right now but I do have a little branch thing that is probably where the bloom is going to be. It's different from the roots. It's growing out and down kind of? I want so bad for this little plant to grow, I've had it now and tried to save it's life from Walmart tossing it out. So now I'm hoping for the best I've had it a year! It didn't die but I don't know what to do with it 💖💖💖 thanks for sharing the details 👒

Hi Samantha, that was a very nice phal with tons of healthy roots. I just started a swc a month ago with my orchids. I rescued one of them from dying & doin good, while the other one had wilted flowers & leaves begun to bend & lines stayed to form in the leaves. I noticed the roots are very thin. I tried to remove the dried velamins of some roots & retain the grown foots from the dried velamin. What is your suggestion to prevent dehydration? Would it be better to put it in FWC or keep it in SWC? I do 2 days water & 5 days out. Thanks for your advice.

Thanks for asking...I am happy to report that the epidendrum hybrid is showing new roots and new growth...as does several of the phals that i planted in semi hydro..Some others didn't fair so well and they have since been repotted back in bark or just tossed because they were too far gone to be saved but that is par for the course when trying to techniques, but yes i am happy so far with how they have fared so far. a hiatus from anything is always a good thing i'd say. Also i love your malamute videos..I have a 8 years old male malamute named Dakota who i love so much and is such an affectionate boy and at 8 still acts like a puppy. hey Sam, I have a quick question for you. I had my phal, that's in bloom in water, and the water is at about inch below the main stalk but my blooms are wilting, all of them and the leaves are wimpy. The roots were half gone when I took it out of the bark. What's your suggestion?
@SamanthasOrchidDogDiaries8 жыл бұрын
Susan, maybe the blooms are old and on their way out. The wilted leaves means that it needs more water. I would cut the flower spike at the base and increase the water. Within a couple days, you should see the leaves firm back up.

Why do I always fail . Leaves separated from the crown . And root rot . I am curious. And always try . I wasted a lot of orchids because of rot . But I do not want to give up . Can you explain . The size of the water and its characteristic feature after SWC
@SamanthasOrchidDogDiaries8 жыл бұрын
+Henni Handayani Hmm... maybe the orchids you are trying to rescue are too sick to save? Only use soft water and water level must be about an inch or so below base. You don't want the water to get to the crown or it might cause root rot. Which sounds like what is happening to yours. :(

Ancient post but Brian... Bruh!... really? 😂. Conventions and clubs: you have to filter out all the parroted crap from the echo chambers. Not just orchids but probably any topic, there's a lot of people who'll tell you things they have only heard, not personally experienced. One of my pet peeves. Like so many classes where the instructor is book smart, i.e. someone else's thoughts, but no personal experience. Ask them 'why' and they cannot explain. Think about someone like Costa Farms, in all of your favorite grocery/pharmacy/diy stores. With hundreds of thousands of orchids at different stages, do you suppose they're babying each one out on a repot? NO. And yet the plants are enticingly gorgeous in every CVS, Walmart, Kroger, Lowe's, Home Depot 😂 Relax and hit the discount racks and rescue some $5 phals out of bloom to practice on.
