And what I've learned with flowers is that I put like you said in the video a very thin layer of resin down you put your flowers and get them in just enough to cover them and that way if they do float the next layer you put on you'll have room for that layer and I make sure I push down on it to release Bubbles and what not and I take my little long neck lighter I won't use a torch cuz I don't want to burn the flower by chance or anyting I'm getting better at it that's for sure

Hi Steve! Your work has me super inspired, enough to start my resin dabbling adventure! I was just looking at some supplies, and I followed your link for the respirator that is in the description of your resin safety video, however, that mask is listed as " can be used until damaged, clogged or saturated." How long do they last in your experience? Does it work out better financially than getting one with changeable filters and having to buy more filters over time? Thanks in advance for your answer, and thank you so much for your vids, they really are quite fascinating and even addictive to watch!

O! I forgot to also ask, is a mask necessary if I were to work outside?
@spiritwings4592
@spiritwings4592 3 жыл бұрын
The mask will last a long time. But you do need to take them apart once a year and check the guts for small cracks. You can replace bad o=rings etc. I'm a heavy equipment operator and we disassemble ours yearly

I am a bit obsessed with peacock feathers, I have tried them in resin and was devistated because the colors disappear 😭 I see yours did as well. Is there ANY way to seal or protect the colors??? Also I just made some heart pendants using those same pre pressed flowers, and most of mine turned clear and yukky because I didn't think to seal them lol. I hope we can find a trick for the feathers because I'm very sad I can't resin all my feathers 😂😂
@Denise11Schultz
@Denise11Schultz 3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the resin changes the feather colors for the same reason it flattens little faceted gems (like Swarovskis). The resin carries the light around the facets so they look like little flat mirrors. Some feather colors are structural, not a pigment, made by the way the feather barbules affect certain wavelengths of light. There is a wonderful old book called The Splendor of Iridescence that shows about this. So it may be the resin carries light around the barbules the same way it flattens the look of the little faceted gems.

@@Denise11Schultz I do believe you are on to something 😁 I do agree. I'm so fascinated by the natural iridescence, and color display of the feathers. My house is full of them. That sounds like a cool book, I am interested in checking that out. Thank you for your time and advice ❤

@@jeanynesaylor3827 My other favorite book on how color works is called The Color of Horses, by a veterinarian called Ben K. Green. He dissected 4000 horse hairs, to discover that all horse colors (flat, shimmery, light and dark, etc) are caused by different sizes and arrangements of one molecule: melanin, the same molecule that colors the skin of people. That sort of puts racism to shame, eh? Please excuse me posting this somewhat irrelevant comment on Steve’s resin video, but it was the only way for me to reach you, since YT stopped PMs some years ago.🤨
