Announcing that "I don't understand, or even care to try to understand the doctrine of the Holy Trinity" does not counter the historic question of Mohammad's supposed existence. There are non-trinitarian sects of Christianity (Unitarian, Arian, Nestorian, JWs etc.) as well as other religions with links to the Hebrew canon Judaism, Samaritanism, Manichaeism etc. so even if there were an issue with one doctrine in one branch of Christianity that doesn't make Islam true by default.

Seems like the Abbasid rulers at that time, paid writers to create a false prophet, based on the stories and scriptures that already existed. In addition they would have to be in line with the aims and objectives of the rulers, which would have included further expansion of their territories, and to do that they would need a very large source of manpower to draw upon.
