The blue queen seems to be much easier to see than your queen with the whit spot, I've been binge watching your journey with the bees from the beginning, absolutely fascinating. Bee keepers used to place hives by the truck load on our 200 acre property when certain wild flowers were out, they moved the hives at night, I used to stay well away, if we spotted a swarm the same beekeepers would come and collect it, I stood about 100 yds away to watch once and a couple of bees peeled off from the rest and targeted me to sting. You are so brave.

Emmy, question: So from my understanding, the hive accepting the queen is pretty important. If the hive doesn't accept the queen, they will possibly kill her. But what about the queen? Will any queen lay for any hive as long as it accepts her? Are queens at all picky for which hive they will lay eggs for? Also, "I present to you Her Majesty The Queen!" :)

Hello Emmy, Are your bees color coded according to the year? White: years ending in 1 or 6 Yellow: 2 or 7 Red: 3 or 8 Green: 4 or 9 Blue: 5 or 0 It would mean your queen was born in 2015 and is now 3 years old. Queen bees can get 4 to 5 years old, but mostly they just last 3 years, until they get replaced by the bees or the beekeeper.
@jacobthepanda31706 жыл бұрын
I’ve become so fascinated with the whole process of beekeeping/apiculture watching all of your vlogs! I’d love to get into this one day if I ever get over my fear of venomous animals lol. This has led me to research more on bees and marking queens and different types of honey and all that jazz. I guess the new queen was born in 2015 since her marking is blue? I’m sure that will also be easier to spot than white. Will you also be marking your new queen from the old hive with red?
@davidodonovan16995 жыл бұрын
Hail queen bee. Sabathons song "Back in Control" (song about the Falklands war: Iron Lady Thatcher as prime minister and Queen Elisabeth the second on the throne at the time of the war. Hence perfect for the New Queens arrival...except that "Back in Control" suggests she's been there before. But Emmy can play the Iron Lady. No offense Emmy. Your the hive owner, you get the Iron Lady invisibility status. That's a complaint. Well done Emmy!

@gonzothegreat13176 жыл бұрын
It means she was born in 2015. She's pretty much at the end of her life now.
@gonzothegreat13176 жыл бұрын
Normally bees are color coded. That's what the OP meant. White: years ending in 1 or 6 Yellow: 2 or 7 Red: 3 or 8 Green: 4 or 9 Blue: 5 or 0 I guess she noticed that the queen was not a new queen. A queen marked this year should be color coded red. Unless of course they do not follow the international bee color coding and just paint their bees any color they want.
@Kuralai955 жыл бұрын
@@gonzothegreat1317 woah! I had no idea that bees can live that long!
@gonzothegreat13175 жыл бұрын
@@Kuralai95 Theoretically a queen bee can become 4 years old. Most of the time though beekeepers (or bees) will end their lifes at 2 years old. A three year old queen doesn't lay as much eggs as a younger one. A normal worker bee life lasts for approx.40 days when born in the summer and approx. 6-8 months if she was born just before winter. A drone will live just until it impregnates the queen or when it is kicked out of the hive by the worker bees somewhere at the end of August.
@bwakel3106 жыл бұрын
Blue? What year is that?
@gonzothegreat13176 жыл бұрын
2015. It could also indicate 2010, but that would mean the queen is 8 years old, pretty much impossible, since their life span maxes out at 5 years old, probably less than that.

Because I live in Ontario Canada, we go by Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. Where I live, our hottest day so far has been 44,45 degrees Celsius, which is hot (around 111 degrees F I believe). I'm trying to learn Fahrenheit. So I know around what temperature Emmy mentioned, whether it's hot or cool. So she said 74 F? That's low 20's in Celsius I believe. Or even 20 degrees Celsius exactly? I haven't looked it up to see if I'm right or anything, just guessing. Although, I'm sure it's easy to figure out, but I never learned Fahrenheit, always Celsius.
