Hey everyone, its been quite the experience growing my two Cichla Azul peacock bass the past 16 months! While they did grow a bit slower than I expected, it still was and is amazing watching them grow in size, color and personality!

I had a ruff go, lost all 3 a month in to what looks to have been Epistylis including a jaguar catfish. Feeder fish and blood worms are off my feeding list this next go around. Any recommendations for feeding them at 2” and what schedule as well as and prevention treatments, water temp, ph ect. I’m at 7.5 ph and 7 hardness and 71 deg water temp. Any advice would be appreciated as I lost 400$ in fish this last go around.

Thank you, with my 125g planted I decided to mix the fish from my 75g planted, 55 planted and 20g planted which had my betta....my ghost knife seemed very docile in my 75g...but when they were mixed together first all 30 of my harlequin rasbora disappeared, then I found the betta killed. Definitely the worst part of this upgrade, but I'll be making a video soon showing the lost

Hi, when You first got them - what were you feeding them.. I have two baby peacock bass and they are not feeding on pellets - I had to give them small guppies and platys.. tell me which Pellets feed to be given to them.
@dwsdarius
@dwsdarius 5 жыл бұрын
Mine originally ate blood worms so it was easier to switch them over to hikari sinking cichlid gold and then to hikari massivore delight when they were big enough. If yours already had the taste of live fish, no doubt it'll be hard to get them on pellets. The goal is to get them to notice the pellet, by making the pellet look like prey....dropping it in front of the filter output of circulation pumps may give the pellet movement which could attract their attention which hopefully will make them bite
@tanganyikatas727
@tanganyikatas727 5 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue and my last resort was too starve my two until they took the pellets, hard to watch for around 3 or 4 weeks but every day they showed more and more interest in the pellets and once they had consumed 1 it was game on. He’s now grown about 2-3 cm witching 2 weeks feeding 3 times a day with big water changes

Those are pretty awesome I love all the spots on them when they were midsize, I have a 5 in kelberi who will not eat any advice and trying to get him to eat he's only been in my tank 5 days but no luck with eating
@dwsdarius
@dwsdarius 5 жыл бұрын
Try a live feeder just to make sure its picky eating and not sick...then maybe try raw foods (I use smelt which works great), then eventually I put pellets inside of the smelt and now mine eat pellets. Definitely takes time though

I haven't tried the feeder fish yet I'm still holding off only because if he does devour that feeder fish then I'm afraid that's all he will eat and yes I could cut those in half and you know stuff them with pellets and try to train him that way I've had him for almost two weeks now and he hasn't eaten a single thing he's in a 220 gallon tank and he's about 5 in and I have a freshwater motoro stingray with about a 9-inch disc the stingray pays him no mind she either cruises all over the sand on the bottom for foraging for food or she's up and down all over the glass he pretty much has the run of the 220 to the middle and high ground all over food will fall right in front of his face and he won't even try to get it how long can these things go without eating
@badger3044
@badger3044 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know about the kelberi peacock bass but I had a Vieja Regani, that went like almost three months without eating at least it went three months without me watching it and I watched it a lot and I never saw it eat for like I say almost the first three months I had it and then all of a sudden he started taking food maybe he survived on tiny little shavings scraps that I didn't witness but like I say I watched him pretty close and this thing never ate for like almost 3 months
@dwsdarius
@dwsdarius 5 жыл бұрын
If you can, contact the people you bought the pbass from and see what they fed him. Most likely I'd say they fed live fish. So using frozen fish could work, if you put food in and he races to it but doesn't grab it...it means he's hungry but he's only use to live foods. If it does that I'd try to add the raw fish where there is a lot of water movement so that the raw fish appears to be alive...that could work too

I’ve gotta 6ft tank that’s kinda a holding tank with 1 1ft big Pacu a small ghost knife, flagtail and tinfoil barb. I’m gonna get my three peacock bass very soon and keep them in there for a few months. Do you think there could be aggression problems??? There’s plenty of hiding spots.
@dwsdarius
@dwsdarius 5 жыл бұрын
Most of those fish aren't known for aggression...just a competition among the bass towards each other but nothing too serious
@justinrvarga7236
@justinrvarga7236 5 жыл бұрын
That’s really interesting. The whole tank is getting along really well. I think peacocks have become my favourite cichlid thus far ☺️. The monos eat everything but the xingu won’t go near the pellets 😐. I’m thinking about making my own fish food. I’m tempted to try and get another Oscar but the ones I got have been aggressive

How big was that tank and also what size tank can pass for ONE azul bass
@dwsdarius
@dwsdarius 5 жыл бұрын
The final tank is a 350 gallon tank. Azul can reach 30 inches but in captivity they may just grow to 25 inches or so, so I'd say for one 180 gallon is the minimum

Can I start two peacocks in a 60 then switch them to a 125 in a year ?
@dwsdarius

This pair grew rather slow...my last one grew 10in in one year...so they'll outgrow a 60 gallon fast. Also a 125g is still too small for them as adults can reach 28 inches...which I've seen in person!
