Wow !! Been looking for this forever. The original coverage live with Walter Cronkite. This takes me back, I'm eight years old and watching the bbc coverage at school in the hall with the tv.on the tall stand. Sadly the bbc used to re-use the video and this historical moment was recorded over. Madness !! But these flickering shadowy images of Neil climbing down the ladder have never left me. Thank you KZbin.

Such exciting memories for America! It’s one of those times everyone will remember where they were. I was a studio singer working on the Dean Martin Show and I remember the director, Greg Garrison, saying Now let’s pray they get them off there! Years later I was privileged to meet Neil Armstrong at a party in Las Vegas. He was hanging out with Connie Stevens and a friend of mine was in her show. Neil was very nice and very humble. What a thrill it was to meet him. RIP, a true hero.

For the first steps, a TV camera was installed on the descent stage of the LM. The descent stage has an octagonal shape, with legs on 4 corners and panels that cover storage compartments on the 4 sides between the legs. On one of the sides adjacent to the ladder, there's a storage compartment (MESA) with a cover that is hinged at the bottom. The camera was placed on the inside of a cover panel, and when the cover was open, the camera was aimed at the ladder. The astronauts could open the cover panel from inside, and operate the camera from inside the LM. This video shows where the camera was: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYmbXnyOmaZ1q8U

There is a significant amount of evidence that supports the fact that the Apollo Moon landings were not filmed in a studio. The photographs and videos taken by the astronauts on the lunar surface have been studied and analyzed by experts in various fields, and they have been determined to be authentic. The landing sites were visited by later missions, such as the Apollo 15, 16 and 17 and the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, for example, has taken detailed images of the landing sites, the American flags and the lunar module's descent stages, all consistent with the landing. Lunar samples brought back by the astronauts have been studied extensively and have been found to be distinct from any terrestrial samples. The technology required to fake the moon landing on the scale that would have been required in 1969 simply did not exist at the time. Many people have been involved in the Apollo program, including thousands of NASA employees, contractors and international partners, it would have been impossible to keep such a vast conspiracy secret. Overall, while there have been conspiracy theories suggesting that the Moon landings were faked, there is no credible evidence to support these claims, and the overwhelming majority of experts in relevant fields believe that the Moon landings were real and occurred as reported.

It's amazing to think about the juxtaposition in America at this moment. On one hand, it was the culmination of an unimaginable achievement in human history, made possible by the toil and dedication of many Americans.
