We took receipt of our current front line fighter aircraft in 1982 or 1983. Not sure how many folks are still driving a car from that era.

I served in the reg forces for 30 years in both combat and support trades, I have never ever seen a true warrior culture within the CAF during my time! It has always been a super woke, left leaning organization. It’s all about a progressive, very feminist culture, full of SHARP training, harassment prevention training, indigenous culture mandatory training, gay & lesbian this, women that! Just look who teaches our future officers at RMC, even Stéphane Dion’s wife worked there a while ago! Personally, I’ve been denouncing this since I join and I can only say this now! We told you so!!

Canadian procurement process is broken, it takes ages to get anything done, and then another government restarts the whole process.

The CAF's problems obviously go well beyond woke. Among other things: - veterans continue to get the shaft - base housing continues to be substandard - RCAF has the readiness rates of a Third World air force - RCN increasingly vulnerable to rust-seeking missiles - the Army has no air defense beyond a few MANPADS, and needs way more drones - ongoing procurement failures mean we pay twice as much for half the capability - little to no capacity to defend our Arctic region, and no, a slushbreaker with a 25mm pop gun won't do it

You're right. Take all money going to CBC and woke institutions. Take all foreign funding and put into vetrans needs, then equipment. Remove all dead wood in command postions. Train to fight instead of wear nail polish and use ladies products. That's a start I'm willing fund.

Take the billions we give to foreign countries and take that money and put it were in belongs for once, spend it in Canada, give it to the military.

Also have a plan from day one and treat this as urgent, don't drag it out like the current whatever you want to call it .

Good one, Brian. I think Poilievre has a handle on what needs to be done. He has a monumental task before him in undoing the damage and it will not happen quickly. This rebuilding of the Canadian Armed forces will be a decade long project. Good luck and Merry Christmas, Canada.

Not is the equipment not ready, it is obsolete. Seeing our military walking round with ponytails, men with earrings, a uniform that looked like they slept in it. No respect, no pride, in the uniform. we need to resurrect some of the old time Regimental Sgt. Majors to straighten this lot.

A Pierre positive: He wants to end "woke." A Pierre negative: He won't spend sufficient money on defense much like Justin.

I would add, it's not just the amount of spending, but more importantly HOW it's spent.

Great interview with the Opposition Leader Pierre. P. We should have military preparedness in Canada ti protect our borders Arctic.. We need to not putvAMERICA AND North America at great risk. China and Russia are threats. Working with America to protect North America in the 21st Century is vital. A modern military wuth all eqpt and soldiers is reqd to secure Canada and North Americs. I write with interest and concern.

Glad to hear the military will be enhanced. Hopefully that we will be able to defend ourselves, our territory and shores.

The procurement system is flawed and unworkable. It takes too long to replace equipment and vehicles and when they are replaced, too often it is not by the best possible choice. The recent purchase of the open air vehicles rejected by the US military as being too dangerous due to lack of protection and useless on the modern battlefield, proves once again that we are wasting money on useless products. During WW2, Canada worked with the Americans to produce and purchase military equipment that was common to both armies. The time has come for Canada to enter into a N American military procurement pact where we can be supplied (and produce) with top grade equipment and vehicles from the world's largest arsenal, the USA.

Love CAF but it's literally hamstrung by the Canadian publics' inability to stomach the amount needed for a proper national force

As a RCAF vet I applaud the new direction, my only caution is that a new government doesn’t mess with Veteran Affairs benefits. For those of us who wore the uniform and made a sacrifice whether it be physically or mentally having that recognized and supported by Veteran Affairs through its various programs needs to be supported.

The young people see how governments (both) treat the military and veterans, perhaps that is also a reason not to join? Speaking as a veteran. The military sacrifice a lot, and many risk their lives. Now compare their service and pensions with that of politicians.
