PJ Harvey is talented, creative, gracious and even a bit humble. Her lyrics and music are powerful and meaningful, much more so than so than that of most of her contemporary pop singers. Let England Shake is an amazing album. She deserves the award and more.

+Gunnhild Edwards - Actually it is more Eerie because her album at the time, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea, released just a year before seem to be an ode to New York. And songs like Kamikaze seems a bit prophetic.

PJ made one of the most emotionally accurate and hard to master albums to date. and its dangerously pleasant to listen to, too ! absolutely wonderful. not one person in rock and roll or popular music managed to balance a ship of personal - impersonal tides to a direct-indirect musical masterpiece. its truly a hard task to master. the people in the audience are strangely unsupportive of that, its true. true that you can taste it in the room, its quite unbelievable, and its sad for them... i would imagine such a deep level of endurance, exploration and wisdom as shown by harvey will get all the generous praise it deserves. might they not throw envy aside? as musicians, are they great enough for that. perhaps if they understand its exactly whats stopping them from making an important piece themselves. ah, humans. all praise to polly, again.

I detest when women in music are reduced to people just discussing their outfits, especially since PJ Harvey is such a genius, although everybody watching this video knows that, but her outfit is really ahead of its time. Super unique and eccentric- at the time you didn't get that often, but nowadays if you watch any modern fashion event they've all gone that way. Obviously here for her music but just thought it was interesting- she's ahead of the curve in every way

I think the difference between P.J. & Adelle is much deeper than that. For one, P.J. doesn’t have apathy for music, where as Adelle needs a man to break up with her before she has the inspiration to have someone write the music for her. Secondly, P.J. worked her ass off to make it as a respected musician. Im sure Adelle worked hard to get where she is, but she didn’t pay her dues. Adelle didnt tour the world playing small venues for change, so she could later win a Mercury, she bought her way in

This album was clearly the deserving winner. PJ Harvey is an amazing artist. But I think the Mercury's should stop handing out money to the winner unless they make this award for new artists only, who could use the prize money much more than established acts. I can't think of many awards where the winner is given a cheque along with their trophy. Great album, though. Long may she run!
