Pope Francis arrives in Iraq on the first-ever papal visit. On Friday he will meet the president and prime minister of Iraq and other dignitaries in Baghdad.
The pope was welcomed by the Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. A motorcade then left Baghdad International Airport, en route to the presidential palace in the Iraqi capital. Pope Francis will take part in an official welcome ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad before meeting with authorities, civil society representatives and diplomatic corps.
