Qualcomm: These wearable glasses using AR2 should have a tap-on/tap-off feature that will turn off the display to return visibility to the user. You should also integrate a touch pad and mouse functionality into the side of the glasses. If you want AR to advance, you need application support. Just like Galaxy watch has it's own store with apps that integrate with existing android apps, AR glasses should have the same frame work. For example, my maps app has a Galaxy app which is small and fits on my watch. My AR glasses should also have maps app directions which can fit in the corner of my glasses, transparent and not obstructing my vision. I should be able to swap to another app with a quick swipe on the side of my glasses. Google translate should be built in and easily togglable.

nReal Air glasses are already at Tier1 of AR glasses you can get today with 3DoF or 6DoF (nReal light) AR and focused on mobile display purposes for gaming and movies. Tier 1 relies on external devices like your existing cell phone or Steam Deck. This Tier is already light, comfortable, stylish, and no oily face factor you get with full VR headsets. What I call tier 2/3 is what I think Qualcomm is talking about here: AR glasses with processing built in OR wireless connectivity to your cell phone. Don't judge before you actually get the technology on your faces. nReal is truly impressive and I can't wait to see how AR2 will revolutionize wearable tech. Qualcomm makes the XR2 in the Oculus Quest 2 so don't sleep on them ;)

There are some interesting applications for AR... but I don't think there are so many that people will want to wear glasses all day. I mean, please prove me wrong, but I don't think the gym example is going to go as smoothly as they're suggesting. It'd take a lot of work to sync up all the info you want. But, I can imagine controlling your Smart Home improves dramatically if you can use some hand-symbols to interact with visual cues related to your devices. Instead of saying "Hey Alexa/Google/etc turn on my Living Room Light" what if you could look in the direction, and pinch-zoom a little floating icon to turn the light on to a certain brightness and hue. To me, that kind of functionality is more interesting than trying to play an AR fighting game where the thing that makes it interesting is that they're halfway obscured on top of a roof nearby. That said, a skateboarding game when you look out the side of the bus window... suddenly I'm intrigued.

When things are developed sufficiently people will gladly wear glasses for the benefits will drastically outweigh any perceived drawbacks. This device will eventually put the power of ai directly in your life, you'll be integrating ai and the internet with your vision. This isn't just an evolution of device technology, it's the evolution of everything we do online. It's paradigm shifting and the capability/edge with the device will be so great that if you don't use it, you'll lose out to those that do.

I believe glasses will be the next battlefield for tech companies as we want to have bigger and bigger screen without bringing huge screen. Phones will probably get smaller overtime as it becomes useful mostly as the main processing power for the glasses then eventually with advancement in battery tech and computing will probably replace our phones

28:17 Getting Pixar’s USD 3D format standardized across Qualcomm Android platforms will go a long way. This is exciting news. Apple has been using the USD/USDZ format for AR for a long time. It has huge advantages over glTF as a production grade interchange format even if it’s not designed to be a transmission format like glTF. This will be great for the metaverse to be able to easily share assets between Android XR platforms and Apple’s future Reality OS.

If Qualcomm open sources its drivers, maybe this will go somewhere but I doubt they'll ever do that. Developers always get burned by closed environments so they don't invest time in them. No chance Qualcomm will EVER make a pair of glasses that will ever ship in quantity. So it's all up to 3rd parties being able to get full, royalty free access to the drivers/firmware so that they can consider integrating the compute hardware into other projects. If MS can't make hololens a thing, Qualcomm doesn't stand a chance. Also, Qualcomm has a poor reputation as a hardware partner, especially as hardware ages. If I were an investor, I'd be concerned seeing them investing any substantial amount of money in AR-focused parts that likely won't ever generate covering revenue.

No one actually wants XR. Commercial industry needs AR and XR for fancy niche client reviews The consumer market wasn't VR for games The office-worker environment doesn't want to wear something on their head and face, let alone, use more than just their flat computer screen. Not even zuckerburg can pay his employees to use the metaquest. Companies that adopted XR with the Varjo XR3 said they had a total failure of adoption becasue users hated wearing the thing and would rather just use their laptop. Small, glasses-like displays are not going to save XR. No one wants to wear something and have intrusive displays in their vision and virtually tracked to their space.
