My dad said he had a similar reaction when he was a kid and found out that Mayberry was not a real place.

I would have bet money that "Hoosiers" was accurate to reality. Come to think of it, I don't know WHY I think that, but I was convinced of it!

By the way, the Milan High School basketball team of 1953-54 was actually heavily favored to win the state title despite the small enrollment. The team finished the season with a record of 28-2. No wonder Angelo Pizzo had such a problem writing the screenplay.

Not really, Muncie Central was the favorite but Milan was a close second fav.

You mean winning the state championship game 35-0, or whatever it was, wasn't as dramatic as a 70 yard reverse to win the game by one score. But they tracked a true story with some literary license well enough.

I'm from Boston, but Indiana has given the world some of my favorite great people / things: 1. Abraham Lincoln 2. Larry Bird 3. David Letterman 4. Janet Jackson 5. Jackson 5 (pre-child molestation) 6. Brad Stevens 7. Gus Grissom 8. Oscar Robertson 9. Cole Porter 10. John Wooden And of course - Hoosiers! [Oh yeah - F Rudy!]

Question: what the hell was ollie doing in the game late in the 4th quarter in a tournament game? That's some questionable coaching. I still love Hoosiers.
