“Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed heads to trial this week for two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors believe she violated safety standards on a New Mexico movie set which led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The young mom was hit by a live bullet - instead of a blank - from a prop gun that was fired by actor Alec Baldwin. If convicted, Gutierrez faces up to 18 months in prison.

Why are people forgetting that is was her job to know if there were live rounds no matter how easy or difficult they are to distinguish. She didn't even had to identify them at the exact moment the gun was loaded, she could have checked each one of them on the free time and lock them in a safe. No matter how busy she was, at least she could have had a box of completely safe rounds on set ready for the gun scenes. Also, there shouldn't be any live rounds at all to avoid mixing them.

The same way people are forgetting that actors who handle weapons should conduct their own safety check! Many actors have come forth and said REGARDLESS of being told the gun is cold, they have the armorer do a safety check in front of them OR do the check themselves. Not hard to do a safety check. Yes, she is culpable and negligent... but she's not the only one that was negligent in this situation.

They're indistinguishable if someone isn't familiar with how a round is supposed to look, sound or feel. I noticed right away the "hot" rounds by the primers. They were pristine and uniform. The blanks weren't. However, I noticed that live round brass also appeared to have been "aged". The only way brass gets that way naturally is if it's poorly stored. I have rounds that I've reloaded 5 years ago and they're just as shiny as the day I made them. Stored in a cardboard box in the closet.

I honestly don’t believe she’s an evil person that deserves to be villainised.. I believe she was very young for such a large amount of responsibility. She made silly choices (drug use at work), and was extremely careless in her duties and responsibilities as an armorer. All of which tragically led to the loss of a young mother’s life, and the pain, trauma and suffering to another who was injured. Not to mention the psychological trauma to all of the people who witnessed this unfold. I believe she does deserve to take some responsibility, as does Alec. He didn’t double check his weapon before aiming it at anyone and firing. Rule number 1. Always assume a gun is loaded with live ammunition.

AD Dave Hall, who weaseled out of this by taking a plea deal to throw AGR under the bus, is actually more responsible than AGR for this death. It is he who handed AB the loaded gun and declared to all in hearing that it was a "cold gun," but he had never checked it. It was this final failure to check that caused the fatality by enabling the earlier failure to check by AGR. If Hall had done his job this never would have happened regardless of any failure or action by AGR. And ditto Baldwin, although he could plausibly claim pure stupidity.

Her mother Stacy Reed has a criminal record and is a housekeeper. She is no longer married to Thell Reed, Hannah's stepfather who is 81 years old. She grew up in Bullhead City Arizona and currently lives there with her mother Stacy in a mobile home. It is a very poor area, and Thell the famous armour lives in another run down trailer in Bullhead City. For all of his fame that everyone talks about, he is on the poor side, not well off at all, and Hannah grew up poor just FYI!

It doesn't matter that she grew up in poor circumstances, it depends on how she was brought up. I don't care about anything, or responsible and careful. The parental home has a great influence on development. An explanation for her actions, the drug use. But not an excuse.

She is guilty as sin. Unless they find some sleazy loophole to get her off the hook. She was sloppy, and negligent at the least. Baldwin and others are morally culpable too for the bad work environment in regards to safety, but it was the armorer’s job to keep things under control, at least until they fired her for actually doing her job properly. Everyone is not cut out for that kind of responsibility.

Not on purpose but that decision caused the death. She also didnt tell the set it was aafe. She gad multiple jobs and that would insuinate that they had other people to call guns hot and cold but idk yet.

Accidents happen. Sometimes accidents happen because of criminal behavior, but sometimes there isn't someone to send to jail for it. We live in a society that is obsessed with punishing individuals. But not every tragic occurrence needs to result in someone going to jail.

It was her job to keep the guns and ammo on set safe. This is very incompetent and negligent. Helena deserves justice. Her son and husband too. She should have never had to worry about being safe at work. This is why we have armorers. Feeling sorry for her is one thing, but she allowed so much chaos that simply never should've been. A woman is dead because of her gross negligence.

I feel sorry for her. It's called peer pressure. Young people should never be put in life or death positions. If you ask me, she was put in an impossible situation. She had two jobs. Asst prop master and armorer. You can't serve two masters and be loyal to both.

@@AnnaChristie-vp4ip My point being is that there's plenty of blame to go around. As armorer, she was in a critical position, yet she was also tasked with being the assistant property master. As I'm watching the trial, it's becoming clear that the set was chaotic and disorganized, yet management allowed that to happen with many rules that have been in place for nearly 100 years to be chronically broken. Management shares equal blame in allowing this arrangement to exist. It was a mistake for her to place herself in the position of having dual roles, for which was either beyond her capabilities or unable to give undivided attention. It's wrong to place total blame on 1 individual when management was fully aware of what was chronically occurring on set yet did nothing to stop it. It could be described as being complicit.

Over, Fifty, Year, Old Working special Never Sen, on a movie Real round, How Is, hésite Pabo That in USA, live round Côme into Set juste Mind Blowing. Looking from Outside, your country your second amendment is responsible For the situation as you guys play with real guns and real life ammunition like kids in a candy shop I went to supermarkets in various areas in the states and you have boxes of light rounds all over the place and this is what we are extremely worried outside your country because it’s time there is a shooting you seem so incredibly surprised. in Europe, it will be impossible to have a live round on the side as nobody plays with guns as you guys do in USA.

The second amendment has nothing to do with a movie set. They had an armored truck and armorer hired. Not sure your understanding of English, but you clearly don't understand why we have 2A. It's not going to change because of criminals. Makes no sense to take gun protection away from responsible gun owners, when criminals wouldn't follow the law anyway. If you're really interested read the history on why we have 2A.
