Ryan Deitch Exactly. How are you growing the game in a place where the arena is half full and the team is constantly losing money? These teams aren't going to be getting national TV coverage to draw viewers either. But Bettman fights like hell to save these money pits when there just isn't interest. Just look at Phoenix. The crowd hasn't shown up since the 2012 Conference Finals, when they claimed they supported their team. At a certain point, the loss of money just isn't worth it. Like Atlanta. And look how much better the team is doing financially in Winnipeg.

MAYBE BOTH the 'Canes & Panthers would be candidates to see a move to Quebec City/Seattle, but I would say that such a move would be unfortunate, especially for the 'Canes ( a 2006 Cup Winner )... Moving the Panthers would be a "first choice" for a revived Nordiques squad ~ Once Arizona dies, they'll be off to Seattle, and that might be what the league is waiting for, in addition to a new arena, but that will happen ONLY when the NBA returns to Seattle.

There was a good amount of support for the SuperSonics in Seattle. It was just stadium issues that caused them to move to Oklahoma City. Adam Silver is trying to put a team back to Seattle within a few years. I believe that they should either update KeyArena or build a new stadium.

It's so hard to internalize what was going on in the early days of hockey 1875-1930. So many leagues changing, teams folding/moving etc. Not to mention that the Stanley Cup used to be competed for by amateur teams. Then totally different pro leagues in Canada. Quite a chaotic early history, but it paved the way to what we have now.

David Scolare So many clueless people here. Search up 2012 playoffs and tell me Arizona does not care about hockey..they are just fair weather. They do care, but only if the team is good. Literally the only team in the league that needs to be moved is the Florida panthers, because even in the playoffs, there’s still some empty seats. Once again, Arizona is just fair weather fans. Hockey does work in the desert. The team just needs to be good.

I began watching hockey somewhere between ages 4 and 5 when I moved to St. Louis. At the time the league had 21 teams. Even though I’ve been a Blues fan from the beginning I’ve always missed the teams that were lost along the way and felt bad for those fan bases. Of all of them, the North Stars relocation hit me the hardest. I loved the Norris Division when it was comprised of St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, and Minnesota. Once the North Stars left it felt like the league went wild with changes. Shout out to the Whalers and Nordiques. I hope they make a comeback like the Jets did.

This was a really good video. There can still be a good amount of future places for NHL teams. Future Places For NHL Teams: Kansas City Salt Lake City Atlanta Baltimore Cincinnati Cleveland Milwaukee Indianapolis Portland, Oregon Seattle Quebec City San Diego Houston (most likely won't happen) New Orleans (not a big hockey city) San Francisco (it is close to San Jose, but has a chance) This was a very long list and some cities like Houston and New Orleans will probably never get a NHL team because of it's location in the South. However, places like Seattle, Quebec City, and Milwaukee might get a NHL team in the future.

I'm gonna say no to Cincinnati and Cleveland as long as Columbus has a team. San Fran is a no, too close to San Jose. Quebec City is a small market but has a dedicated fan base. As much as I'd love to see the return of the Nordiques, it would only happen if a team had to move immediately.

I'll put this into perspective for you. Please understand this isn't an insult. Ice Hockey is favored more in Canada indeed, however the population in Canada is significantly smaller than the US hence why there are way more US teams. In fact, my home state of California actually has a larger population than the entire country of Canada and I'm not asking for more California teams.
