A shocking Banteng birth is caught on camera - but when the newborn tries to find much-need nourishment, her mother won't feed.
The banteng (Bos javanicus; /ˈbæntɛŋ/), also known as tembadau, is a species of cattle found in Southeast Asia. The head-and-body length is between 1.9 and 3.68 m (6.2 and 12.1 ft). Wild banteng are typically larger and heavier than their domesticated counterparts, but are otherwise similar in appearance. The banteng shows extensive sexual dimorphism; adult bulls are generally dark brown to black, larger and more sturdily built than adult cows, which are thinner and usually pale brown or chestnut red. There is a big white patch on the rump. Horns are present on both sexes, and are typically 60 to 95 cm (24 to 37 in) long. Three subspecies are generally recognised.
From The Secret Life of the Zoo: This series gives viewers behind the scenes access to Chester Zoo's 21,000 animals and the people who work there. The zoo's keepers are interviewed in each episode about the various animals and incidents, whether it's orangutans escaping their enclosure or tigers getting into scraps.

Another bloomin' cliffhanger! When's the update? I've loved your videos but I hate these abrupt endings after only a few minutes.

The scientific name of the banteng is actually Bibos javanicus not Bos javanicus.

In the case of the banteng, it's to keep it from going extinct. It's an endangered species, with less than 8,000 individuals remaining in the wild

To release their descendants into the wild once their natural habitat is (hopefully) stabilized. These individuals live a cozy, stress free life so that their grandchildren can some day go home.

In best case scenario these animals go in to release programs to recover their population in the wild. However this is not so straight forward as people think, because captive animals can bring in diseases and kill wild populations. So it is very expensive and very time consuming to get them trough tests, quarantines etc. In reality it is done so that animals can be exchanged between the zoos to refresh the bloodlines or to swap for other species so zoos continue to be interesting. For some species constant presence in the zoo is source of entertainment but also source of food for carnivores. For example an old zebra, or injured zebra, that should be euthanized will be killed and meat used to feed big cats.

You mean be vegan so you can delude yourself that animals don't die to feed you? Thousands of small animals die daily in death equipment so you can pretend you're protecting them. If you eat... animals die. That's just fact
