Freedom boat club is pretty awesome, flats boats, bay boats, off shore boats, deck boats, and hundreds of locations. No cleaning, no maintenance, live wells, fish finders. The biggest draw back is you can only get out during the day. No trailering, no boat ramp issues, no marina fees/waits. Just pay for gas and tip the dock hands.

Do both when situation arises. My sis in law came to SW FL for work and stayed thru weekend. After coffee we just decided on a moments notice to rent a boat since I’m currently boat less. We rented for just 1/2 day, grab some sun gear, yeti cooler, and swung by Publix on way to marina for goodies/munchies etc and were on the water relaxing, listening to music, hitting some vape action for high society and totally loving life. When time was up, we arrived back at dock (a lil bit tardy) , threw the bow line and keys to the rental agent, grabbed all our stuff, made sure boat had no trash etc left in it and we were on our way home to have a glass of wine or ice tea and hit the hay. Great stress free day!!!

Once I made the mistake of renting a 14' lake boat while on a vacation trip... Now I own a 31' fishing boat, a 2500 HD truck, about 20 fishing rods and my garage is mostly to store my gear 😂. But I am very happy.

Hey Cpt.Mike my family owns the very same Nautic Star 203sc. Great build and great wide beam for family, water sports, and back water fishing! Easy for the ladies to get in and out, tons of storage...great vid again!

Today you are just Mike to me. Like me the lover of family and a good life on the water! What a great video!!! I own a deck boat. I live on mosquito lagoon. I have grown kids and grandchildren so it is perfect for family time but I can also get out in the flats and fish with my buddies. I think that maintaining your own personal boat makes you at one with the vessel which helps make you at one with the salt life. Looking forward to the next step in your new venture!!!

I agree working on your own stuff does make you one with it. I owned a newish Lexus once for a year, never felt like I knew or really owned it, but my BMWs... Now that's a love affair. Guess it's the same with boats?

I join a boat club 8 months ago. And for now I think it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. my budget Was $1000 a month. I realize now that boating is more expensive than I thought. The amount of time that I thought I was going to have you could cut that in half. the amount of money you thought you were going to spend you could. double it or triple it easily. I joined South Florida boat club and now I’m paying 300 dollars plus a few fees thanks Mike keep on doing your thing can’t wait to see you out on your new boat p.s please do another video on anchoring at the sandbar just a little bit more in depth please lol

Captain Mike, Thank you for another informative video. I really liked the idea of using 7' rods for kids. That was a great tip. I am not a charter captain, but I take out kids of friends fairly often. For our family, I think owning a boat is the best option. Sometimes fixing the boat is a bit of a PITA, but I enjoy working with my hands. I have nothing against paying for ride and do that a couple of times a year for tog or cbass. We boat just about daily in the summer. We are located at Indian River, DE. We fish the bay, near shore, and offshore when the weather permits. We run a 24 footer so offshore days are limited. I do see the benefits of renting though. It would definitely make sense if we only boated once a month or something like that. Keep the videos coming! Us Northern folks are getting excited to be out there again. Your videos are a nice reminder! Sincerely, Mark Wiebner and The Funky Bunch

I like owning a boat. I keep mine in the water tied up behind the house so I can go out whenever the weather is right and I have the free time. I will agree with you that if you don't have a boat renting one is the way to go.

Always a neat experience to go boating, if you plan to boat more then little owning a boat is a better deal but if you only wanna boat a little rent is easier! I get out as offten as I can aswell! Just enjoy the ocean where and when ever!

Any day you can go on a boat is a good day, but overall I prefer to own and be on my boat. I feel safer. I also enjoy being on other captains boats. It's less responsibility and I can relax and enjoy more.

I think renting is better you don't have to store it in winter you don't have to own a truck to pull it you don't have all the shit that goes with it you just take it out and bring it back and its probably cheaper if you only go 3 to 4 maybe 5 times a year

I hate the saying “the two happiest days of owning a boat is the day you buy it and the day you sell it” this comes from the boneheads that don’t understand what buying a boat means. You have to maintain it, wash it, service it everything. If you’re not into that rent a boat. You can not ever justify the cost of owning a boat, period. Don’t try, just know you’re going to shell out some money. You need to know the rules of the road, if you can’t, then stay off the water... “The day you buy it and the day you sell it” you can’t put a price on all the days in between, time with friends, family and so on... overnight trips, we scuba dive. Off our boat and love it. All on our schedule.... Owning a boat isn’t easy, specially when something breaks, but the enjoyment makes all that go away.
