Hi there. I'm an actual mattress-maker from Europe and I also sell my mattresses in 4 shops directly to customers. I just wanted to correct 1 or two things you said, as my company focuses on natural latex, especially Talalay latex. You mentioned that less chemicals are used in the Dunlop process. This is not true. They equally require a mix of ammonia, TMDT and Zinc oxide to stop the coagulation while transporting the sap. After the vulcanization, there are no other additives added (sometimes with the exception of some lubricant while extracting the core from the mold, as it is a pretty sticky matter before the post-vulcanization). The aspect of sleeping "on the mattress" is dependent on the underlying concept of the mattress. If you modify the value of the vacuum intensity in talalay, you change the size of the cells which changes the absorption rate of the latex. The first couple of centimeters will absorb pressure points more easily, and it will only get firmer the more it compresses. This would be a type more suitable for side sleepers. It is also possible to make it compress earlier and give more resistance but with the same density. Talalay is the best choice to control the impact on any body type, this includes people under 130lb (60kg). But the mattress must be produced to gradually build up resistance. This is achieved by multiple layers or zones with different density or the equilibrium between air/latex mix, Vacuum pressure, % of the mold that is being filled. Regarding lifespan: +-8 years for synthetic latex (30/70 with a White Oil mixture), +-10 years for dunlop and +-15 years for talalay. And for the certifications, the best one would be Cradle-to-Cradle Gold. It includes FSC and Rainforest Alliance standards, Oekotex 100 annex 5 and has to be at least Climate neutral. For the rest: you are spot-on. Good content!

Thank you so much for this info! Would you recommend a brand/mattress in the US? I want less toxic bed than memory foam, but I am a side sleeper that’s under 130. What configuration would you best recommend I use please.

Might also want to mention those latex mattresses you can buy that ship with multiple layers of varying firmness of latex. They can be moved around to alter the overall firmness of the mattress.

I had a new natural latex pillow but the smell is my problem it won't go away and I couldn't stand it any longer how much more if I buy a mattress. But I want to try the natural latex mattress. Would you happen to have any suggestions to get rid of the smells?

I just bought a 3” topper from SleepEZ and didn’t notice an odor upon opening it. However, it definitely has a pervasive mild rubber smell after a few days of use. I am having trouble washing the smell out of the sheets and wool pad that was on it first! The person sleeping on it is a new mother with a baby and I’m beside myself trying to figure out if it will end up making her have an allergic reaction.

Can we use latex mattress alone without any hybrid combination, is it recommended, if yes then how long will be the life?
@TheSleepDoctorАй бұрын
Natural latex mattresses can last about 20 to 30 years, while synthetic latex typically lasts around 10 to 15 years. It's important to check with each manufacturer for specifics, as durability can vary.

You cannot get a softer latex pad for people less then 130lbs?
@deefee70110 ай бұрын
You can get a Talalay topper which might be good. If you're less than 130lbs which is 58kgs, I recommend a Japanese futon. Get a proper Japanese one. The Japanese swear by them and are small, light people.
@stephaniecrothers84827 ай бұрын
You want Dunlop latex which is 100% latex. Do NOT get talalay latex because it doesn't get the GOLS certification. Talalay is very expensive to make, too expensive, which means it's NOT all latex. It's 30% talalay latex and 70% synthetic latex.

They're safe, but humans under 130lbs or 58kgs, which is kids, will not sink into the latex and so it will feel like a slab to lay on. If you want natural bedding for lightweight humans, I recommend a Japanese futon. Get a proper Japanese one. The Japanese swear by them and are small, light people.

Thanks for the video. I still have one question. You mentioned that latex bed is good for back and stomach sleepers, what about side sleepers, what is the best selection? Would still latex mattress?
@TheSleepDoctor Жыл бұрын
Latex mattresses can still be great for side sleepers, it’s more just they are especially good for back and stomach sleepers. Check out our site for info on finding a good latex bed for side sleepers

@@TheSleepDoctor thank you for your response. I will check your site. We are bought a new bed, it arrives in September, and we will need to get a new mattress 🙂 That is why I started my research.

You purchase a latex mattress that is customizable. SleepEZ and Naturepedic, among others, allow you to customize each side of the bed to the comfort of each person. For example, my husband and I went to an organic latex mattress store last weekend and discovered that although we are both side sleepers, he likes softer, and I like a medium firm. So if we buy the Naturepedic mattress, we will get two different firmness on one bed. And if we don't like it after a month, we can swap out a layer of latex for a different firmness for free in the first 100 days with Naturepedic. We are getting the hybrid with coils and latex and a pillowtop. The other is Naturally Nestled latex hybrid. They both offer a 25 year warranty Trying to decide between the two the two.

Memory foam is made from petroleum products. Memory foam may contain toxic materials. Dunlop latex will last much longer. Latex foam is made out of the sap from the rubber tree, latex. I never noticed any smell, odor, or scent from my Dunlop latex mattress. I had it for 18 years and it was in great shape when I ordered a new one. Some manufactures mix the latex with petroleum products, this is Talalay latex. Pure latex mixed with oil products. They don't last as long and some people are allergic to the chemicals. They spin it like Talalay is better than Dunlop. Ninety nine percent of the time Talalay is mixed with petroleum products. This cuts down the price of Latex cost. Don't let these guys BS you. They are not coming clean with what is in the Talalay latex mattress. Dunlop is as natural as you can get. Dunlop is considered organic and you will love it. So something else I noticed, Talalay mattresses are more money. Mixing the latex with petroleum products, polymers and such makes them money, you don't benefit from that. They do. and they add insult to injury by jacking up the price. Research your mattress, dig deep and figure it out. You will be spending 1/3 of your life on it. It's work getting threw the disinformation marketing companies throw at us. They are cleaver and only think of profits.
