@@poorman1787 Good point, even though the value is wrong, under DC mode it would probably show a changing value similar to what you see here, and I don't know where he gets the "0.06 amps" threshold from but if it's a DC value then you can't rely on the readings he got. It's probably a light bulb somewhere that stays on LOL most likely culprit of these things is bad alarm and/or remote starter installations that go bad over time, with the vibrations of driving, conductors get chaffed and all sorts of stuff starts to happen, the alarm/remote start modules themselves can be draining the battery. He didn't mention it had one though. Those are easy enough to diagnose, just unplug them from the battery and if it goes away then there's the problem.

As an Acura driver for 18 years, I have had 3 Acura: 1 integra and 2 RDA. For 18 years, I never had a single issue with the 3 cars. Absolutely nothing, not even a light or fuse problem. My first one was Integra (5 years old). I paid $4000 and drove from 1991 to 1995 and sold for $3500. My second one was RDA SUV bought it for $28,000(only 2800 miles) and drove it to 100,000 miles and sold it for $9000; then I bought a new one 4 years ago. While my wife has had BMW, Toyota, and Benz. We also never had any problems with Toyota. BMW and Benz are clearly lower quality in terms of reliability.

It’s the hands free Bluetooth module. My 2008 MDX did this. Simply unplug it, it’s easy to get to and is hot even when the car isn’t running. It overheats then gets an internal short that causes this constant drain on the battery.

It’s a known issue with the HFL module made by Johnson Controls in Mexico- either just disconnect it and be done or replace it.

It’s definitely the hands free Bluetooth module. I experienced this with my 06 TL. With so many phones developing over the early 2000s, Acura seemed to have quit on releasing firmware updates for this feature so around 2009/2010 this feature stopped working for me. It wasn’t until 2017/2018 that we figured out the problem. Sucks that a feature that didn’t even work for almost a decade is what was draining my battery. Scotty, next time you should do a video on the cruise control system failure. My on/off button never stayed depressed so I had to keep it depressed with electrical tape. You have to take out the entire airbag to fix this issue smh!

We've owned 2 of these Acura RDXs. The first gen was a little so so because of the power and the concern over changing the corroding washers to avoid the mixing of coolant & oil. Now, the 2nd generation has been absolutely AMAZING once you put the VCM disabler on. Of course here's a few things we've done to really make the experience better- Upgrade the battery to handle the load from the features & entertainment system, replace the poor oem shocks with KYBs, Drain & refill trans fluid every 15-20k (change filter ever with 30k), & change the spark plugs after you disable the VCM. Doing that has allowed us to maintain consistent V6 power @ 26mpg on the highway, & around 23 city. Ask me anything, these are really awesome cars, these VCM disabled 6 cylinder motors & 6 speed transmissions are bulletproof if you maintain them and keep the fluids changed. We wanted to consider the snazzy 3rd generation RDXs, but are concerned about the drive train (turbo charged engine combined with a questionable 10 speed) & the quirky touchscreen entertainment system that many dealers have stated owners aren't appreciating as much as initially expected...

Definately the HandsFreeLink module. This is extremely common for Acuras. Feel the plastic cover around the garage door opener and sunroof switches, if it feels warm you found your issue. This is actually a well known issue with the RDX/MDX platform. There are a handful of "common" reasons why the batteries on the 07's drain. Bluetooth, door actuators, and stereo amp are the most common I've seen. I have to say, having owned one now for 2 years, it's a fantastic little car... I have a 2007 Acura MDX. The car was 10 years old and had 171,172 miles on it when I bought it. One of the first repairs (of many) I did was to replace the alternator. I kept seeing a "check battery" light flickering on and off. My mechanic confirmed the alternator was bad. I then would notice a humming sound. After checking online, I saw the bluetooth system would be draining the batteries of Acuras from this model year and left unchecked would ruin the alternator. I pulled the bluetooth system out, and have never again seen the '"check battery" light come on. I suspect this RDX has the same issue. All you need to do is to pull out the bluetooth system; problem solved. Unless the alternator needs to be replaced as a result of the drain.

I had the same problem with my 2009 mdx before knowing what was causing the drainage the 1st time I took it to the dealer and they said that the acura link module aka Bluetooth needed replacing so I did, the 2nd time about a year later same problem they said I needed a new alternator so I did and now about 3 months after a new alternator my car would not start, luckily I got a jump and after 10min it started so I quickly went and got a new battery installed and it's been ok ever since, so I did some research and the problem was the acura link module is a bad design and acura knows about it but will never tell you, to fix the problem you will need to disconnect the module its very easy to due the module sits behind your center console, sit in the middle of your back seat and pull back were the heat comes out from, it will be pretty hard so you'll need to pull hard once thats off you'll see it it's a black box about 5" long 3" wide and 1" thick it should have a grey or black connector on right or left of the box with some wires just disconnect it and thats it , you just wont be able to use the Bluetooth no harm done, you might need to unscrew the box before you can disconnect it....

I have a 2005 MDX. It's been a great car until about 2015 or 2016, I started having dead battery problems. Initially they told me it was due to my current driving habits, going short distances between starts, so the battery never got a chance to recharge. I temporarily solved the problem by driving the car everyday, or long enough to charge the battery. But if I forgot to drive for 2 or 3 days, the battery went dead. If I left home for over a week I disconnected the battery, and the car started right up when I returned home. I bought a portable jumper battery, and in the past 2 years I have jumped my battery countless times. I took it to the dealer 2 times to get the electrical system checked but they reported no problems. I just took it in (June '22) and they reported a bad battery, so I had that replaced. I brought up the problem again and they said they would try disconnecting the Bluetooth (which I never used). I don't know if that worked since I have to stop driving the car for several days. My ON STAR stopped working also. Other than that, I love the car, and it's great on long-distance road trips. I keep up the regular maintenance schedule, and the mechanics say it is in great condition, aside from the normal things that wear out. Those get expensive, but it could be worse if I didn't keep up the regular maintenance.

You remind me of my local independent mechanic for my old 1990 535i. I'll ask him about having to fix a small issue and he will reply "Why? It's not an issue and doesn't affect anything." He does great on what NEEDS to be fixed to keep it all sorted. The little bits, heck, he tells me it's a lot cheaper to do it myself since he knows I like working on my car. I worked for Honda/Acura - on those years RDX the Bluetooth computer modules were all faulty. There was a service bulletin that was issued, he could have had a new one installed under warranty. Also the Navigation was issued a service bulletin, that unit was tied into the HVAC unit harness and it would freeze the nav unit sometimes. It would be replaced at no charge to customer if they let the dealer know. New Nav unit and wiring relay. Good luck convincing the service manager anything is wrong unless they witness it lol

I think it is the Bluetooth module. When it goes bad etc it randomly keeps randomly searching to hook up/connect to a Bluetooth device. The easy fix is to just disconnect it since they are pricey $250+?) of course it means no more Bluetooth calls etc. Beats having to open the hood all the time to disconnect the battery.

Do a voltage drop test across the fuses to see if you can isolate the circuit. Use a wiring diagram to see what modules are on that circuit and unplug them one by one. Or fit a remote isolator if you can't fix it.

I definitely wouldn't leave it. I'm the type of person that HAS to fix it and figure it out. I watched another video. The guy diagnosed the excessive parasitic draw by pulling fuses until the meter showed no problem....then he looked at that part of the circuit diagram. He eventually found the fault in the rear seat audio control bluetooth unit...was causing excessive drain. His method for locating the problem was fairly easy and effective...although you need to be able to follow and trace circuit diagrams.

I remember in my sister's 2004 Accord 4dr was draining current too. I pinpointed the problem to the radio (would drain the next day all the time. All I did was cut the radio's +12V and ACC line, tied them together, and connect to a switch with a fuse (in series) to the battery. The switch was installed in one of those available/free accesory receptacles usually found on the left side of the dashboard. Problem fixed.

Being the old electrical fart that I am (1953 BD like someone else I know). Clamp on meter is indicating AC? All types of wiring can act like antennas with digital meters indicating small current flow or voltage. This is where I'd pull out the "analog" meter & put in series with battery (watch polarity of meter terminals in relation to battery terminals (series hook up)). Set meter to low setting & see if needle moves on the analog meter. Must have current flow, not induction, to move needle on analog meters. Retired electrician in old chemical plant. Have been bitten a few times by digital meters giving me false readings due to induction. Wires packed together in conduit (wiring harnesses too) even with power totally removed from process & grounded can indicate a "digital" reading. Great video Scotty thank you. I watch you every time I go on the prowl for vehicles. Loose cable, bad news. That will trash electrical equipment. Be safe, keep up the good work!

FYI, those battery disconnects are great, also antitheft... :) But on the ones like that that I've used, all you actually have to do is loosen the top (green) handle and it's disconnected, no need to actually remove the cable where it's attached with the screw. I was surprise Scotty didn't show checking the battery's condition first, that'd be where I'd start. Perhaps it's on it's last legs, still can start the car when fully charged, but even a small drain for a few days brings it down enough to not start again. RichE San Diego, CA

My GMC Sierra 2500 had a battery drain issue and I finally got a solar trickle charger, placed it on the dash, then park the truck facing south and now no problems. Worst part is, that if a battery goes dead too many times, it dies itself. It has not gone dead in years now, and latest batteries 3-4 years old, are still good. It takes two batteries and it was expensive changing them every 3 years like clockwork.

Scotty you had an error in your current clamp usage. You have a current clamp that is able to measure True RMS AC or DC but according to the display it is on the AC setting and a car battery is definitely a DC source. I have never seen a current clamp used that way that didn't jump around.Try again but make sure you hit the select button and change it to DC. You will probably find the indication of power drain you were looking for. Good luck!
