TL:DR, If you run 1:1 using the base clock of your RAM and matching the infinity fabric speed, (2400 RAM and 1200 IF, for example) you will get a very stable performance that will improve as you reach higher RAM speeds. If you go over/under the 1:1 ratio, then make sure to adjust your RAM timing to compensate for latency.

How do i do that, i got 5900x now,just put Corsair LPX 2400mhz(from the old system) on the correct timings and voltage but the ratio is still at 1:12. This ram will go on sale with the old parts and i will have to get new ones,thinking of 32gb of 3200mhz or 3600mhz (from what i saw there is no notable difference between them in performance) but i can't get my head on how to solve the infinity stuff or with what ram does it work.

This was a very informative video but considering low latencies and higher infinity fabric clock speeds seem to matter more, it might be better just to spend less on the RAM and buy a better CPU or GPU with that extra cash. Also I don't think the differences are that dramatic especially with a lot of the workstation benchmarks. Now this does have an advantage over Intel atleast I would assume because RAM can be further optimized for better performance.
@pwnage44
@pwnage44 4 жыл бұрын
I'm just a casual so it doesn't matter all that much to me. If I got a Ryzen 9 3900X and 16GB of only 2400MHz RAM, I would not be complaining! The guts of the processor and the amount of RAM matters way more and contributes like 90% of the overall performance, no?

@@Rick020 Yeah usually the prices are similar, but its the quality of the components that varies. You'll usually get cheap RAM, cheap CPU cooler, cheap PSU and a below average motherboard on a pre built, however you can build your own with much higher quality parts for the same price. You also have the customisation aspect of building. I recently bought myself a Cooler Master MasterCase H500 case. Absolutely incredible. The airflow for the price is top notch. Also got myself a red and black Arctic Freezer 34 eSports Duo CPU cooler which looks sweet. I love a good custom built PC.

Also don't expect to get to 1900, or even 1800 infinity fabric for granted. It is possible on some motherboards, but unlikely. Choose mobo carefully ! Some people having problems to get to 1800 !!! @@wotever99ninynine as I commented, I wish people would stop getting tricked into believing that RAM overclocking or "gaming RAM" is going to impact their performance. You should get a reliable and decent RAM kit for sure, but having the best CPU/GPU combo that you can afford and as much RAM as possible is always better. I've had my own custom computer since the Athlon x2 and I've never bothered getting into RAM overclock since most of the performance gains are basically from overclocking the CPU and GPU due to impact of the internal cache has over external "slow" RAM has. You are always better off having more RAM then faster RAM in a day to day basis. If RAW speed is what you want then sure go for it, buy the ultimate overclocking kit...but just like the "insane" CPU overclock often run on one or two sticks or RAM, you'll find out that it's easier to face instability and you having to compromise on some stuff (dual vs quad channel). I'm not saying that you won't see any improvement, I'm just saying that you'll be better off having a 32GB RAM disk with 20GB of cache on your SSD and still have 12GB spare for the OS @2100-3200, compared to getting a 16GB kitt of 4200Mhz @ 6969Mhz Inifinityswags.

Abhay Pratap Singh Agreed. Whatever they’re paying Anthony, they should probably pay him more. He appears to be the only one there with the chops to bring LTT a high level of technical credibility. Not to say that the rest of the crew isn’t great, excepting Jake who is white supremacist trash that they should’ve dropped instead of abetting. Linus certainly has a lot of networking chops too. And everyone else has great knowledge and skills in their fields and plays their roles well in creating great content as a team. But Anthony is quite clearly the IT wizard of the shop, presumably keeping everyone else’s tools working properly. And he still manages to make excellent content himself, even if he’s not presenting it. Perhaps most of all, he fills these roles without being a totally pompous jerk, which has value in and of itself. Anthony: You should negotiate a raise. We use a bunch of fans now and cables are routed out of the case between the mobo and side panel cover. The PSU is almost always on bottom now. External BluRay drives are probably more common than internal. Memory is totally different with HDD being almost entirely pointless now and things like M.2.

Brad Haines no it’s the CPU, more sticks strains the memory controller, which is on the CPU, not the board... For instance, good luck getting his speeds to work on Intel 8700k or 7700k, their memory controllers kind of top out around 4000-4200 for really good memory controller binning on those CPUs and with 4 sticks that’s going to put too much load to run above 3600 (so they probably won’t run that tight of timings). The board is just traces at this point (preferably you use 2 slot only boards for best overclocking thanks to more optimized EMI layout due to its simple nature and shorter trace runs, it’s just easier with half the wiring)

I've had a Ryzen 5 3600x since 2019 and only NOW I learn of this? I feel so dumb. I had my DDR4 memory sitting at 2800Mhz instead of the factory 3600Mhz because my understanding had always been that RAM speed doesn't matter. For Ryzen, it clearly does. Old CPU-bound games like TF2 run so much better now.

Can someone tell me how RAM speed or latency will come into play with higher reolution scenarios like 1440p or 4k? Will they be more or less the same with the results for 1080p here?
@OCX600RR
@OCX600RR 5 жыл бұрын
The higher the resolution, the less the CPU becomes a factor. Higher resolutions start taxing the graphics card much more and thus, you're more likely to hit the GPU bottleneck before any other part of the system becomes the limiting factor.

Its not really the best choice... unless it has GOOD timings. There is a G Skill kit that is DDR 3600 w/15/15/15/35 that SHOULD be a decent bit faster than the DDR 3200 w/14/14/14/34. BUT your 3600's running at CL16 and higher are not faster and possibly slower than the 3200's at CL 14. The MHZ isn't enough to overcome the timings.

Probably. Ram speeds have little to no effect on GPU performance so they'll use the most powerful GPU they have to eliminate/minimise the GPU bottlenecking, any performance difference should be from CPU/RAM gains.

@@Blearky Jan Nowak is trolling, "no one" is running 4 graphics cards any more aside from *maybe* some special rendering programs or something (I dunno, I know some benchmarking tools can do 4). Nvidia even removed support for 3/4-way SLI on 10-series cards and above. Even then, most games run horribly (or not even at all) with 2 graphics cards, or they have microstuttering (an issue I had on both 560Ti and 680 SLI-setups for most games), games might not even use the second card at all, etc. All the game performance tests I've seen where I noticed the GPU have been a single card of the highest performance available (1080/2080 Ti etc)

Sometimes even the automatic settings fail. When I want to fill all four slots on my board (B350, 2200G), I have to manually underclock the RAM while each of the pairs alone runs at 3200 without problem. This might be a problem of the CPU but is nevertheless annoying.

If you don't live in the USA (currency exhange rate) and there is a big price difference between a good kit of ram at 3200mhz and the same one at 3600mhz take the 3200mhz one... save the money buy a better Cpu/Motherboard/Gpu or a M2 etc etc and forget this story about Ram because the reviewers read that from the original AMD paper and start spreading that story everywhere etc the 1:1 ratio is respected @ 3200mhz Ram is Ram it's so good theses days and so fast it doesn't matters at all for 99.99% of the users out there
