Hey man, great video!! I'm going to subscribe. I have been using WT presets for some time now, I find they best suit my needs and require the least tweaking to get where I want them to be. The WT-TM patches are really next level if you ask me. Not only that, but I've found that dropping the TM IRs into my older WT patches (amp appropriately, of course) had breathed new life into the older patches as well. WT is nothing but win in my books!!

I was really confused because I didn't think the highs were too agressive, but then you talked about speakers and I'm using Kali LP-6's, so that makes sense. The Tone King Imperial and the Matchless C30 from WT are my go to's. At this point having played numerous different presets from a variety of makers, I have to say that I am sold on what Worship Tutorials is doing. Their presets sound awesome. I've been an amp guy my whole life and I take a Helix XL to Church now. I dont see that changing anytime soon. There is a noticeable improvement in the Tone Match stuff to their older presets. I dont believe its simply more treble. I really like the feel of the amps and how they react to overdrives.

I’ve been hearing lots of chatter about the Tone King Imperial (just watched Rhett Shull’s Neural DSP vs the real amp video). I gotta try one out! Like you, I was an amp guy too for a long time until my back and wrists started having problems, hence the deep-dive into Pedaltrain Nano rigs. I agree with you about the feel and the reactivity to the nuances of my playing. Pick dynamics was a big surprise for me!

You're welcome, thanks for watching! That Marshall PA 100 is a special beast of an amp, huh! Are you playing in the context of a church worship team, or a band doing gigs outside? I find TJ to be the most gig-ready of the lot, having used their patches for a cover band gig.

Good stuff man! Question, how do you get the in ear mix on a weekend a church to not be so bright in the ears?
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! It depends on which part of the signal chain you need the mix to be less bright. If overall, I'd look into the IEM station (e.g. for me it's the LiveMix unit at my station) and tweak the 3-band master EQ. If you need specific instruments to be EQ-ed differently, have a chat with your monitor engineer, hopefully you have the relationship to request these slight changes (and remember to save the profile!).

I have the both the Matchless Chieftan and C30 Ch1/2 patches. With a bright guitar the chieftan sounds great because it’s a little darker. With a dark guitar I use the C30 and it sounds great. I didn’t like the TJ patch I got but have been blown away by the WT patches. I own several older WT patches and never found much use for them (just my own taste, nothing against what they’re doing). However these TM patches are a different level.

Thanks for the great video and advice to the sound engineer to bypass the EQ, compressor, fx on the mixing board (of the Gtr channel) due to the fact that the patches from TW / TJ are "room" ready. And you're wright about the FRFR / Studio monitor aspect. When I practise at home, I use my FRFR speaker or studio monitor. There is definitely a difference in the sound of those speakers and the FOH at church. I am extremely pleased to have patches & IR's of real and great amps in my fx board. I have both Line6 and Fractal FM9 pedals (got my FM9 Turbo in January of this year after being months on their waiting list ) and use almost only (99%) WT patches and IR's (TJ don't make patches for FM9 😢). These patches sound great with Line6, but extremely good with the FM9 (even the feel). The WT patches that I've been using the most with my FM9 (of all the patches & IR's I own) are the 1) ’64 AC30 TB TM, 2) Bethel & Hillsong - Artist Series but also the TMONT 15 TM patches. The "solo" and "chorus" presets of the TMONT 15 TM patch sound excellent! Btw, I have seen Brian's post below. So the next WT patch I'm gonna buy is the WT Supreme patch (it is already in my cart). And I have subscribed to your YT channel.

I'm a big fan of the Tone Match stuff. I contributed a couple amps so far to the WT folks to match (the 5153 and an upcoming one). They sound just like my mic'd up amps, and any difference at this point can probably be chalked up to differences in mic, mic position, or preamp

@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar It is. Brian and Bradford live close by, and when they started talking about doing the Tone Match patches, I wanted to see how well it worked, with a couple amps I know well. I offered to bring them out, to see what would happen. They did an amazing job. They sound just like my physical amps in a real mix. They FEEL like my real amps in a physical mix. What makes it particularly compelling is that neither of the amps are currently Helix models, although there are a couple similar ones. I've built a couple new patches built around the amp/IR foundation of the TM patch for other genre specific sounds. I'm a worship leader, but I am also a metal/punk/hardcore enthusiast. The 5153 TM works great for genres outside of church music for sure.

When I write my patches I find myself always going down to around 4.5kHz to 5kHz cutting the highs.This reflects real cabs.My lows are around 100 to as high as 200Hz. Ah, I have heard the argument to crank down that high pass to as low as 5kHz, and I do that sometimes especially for really fizzy tones, but most of the time I end up getting my patches really muffled. There's something in the 9-11kHz that provides some airiness and liveliness from the stock cabs. Maybe it's a different acoustical response with IR's 🤔 Ah, then I will save up for Yamaha's! I've experienced them live in my friends' studios and I am quite blown away by them (sometimes quite literally; one of my friends loves to crank them!)

Hello, excellent video. I really do like these new "tones" but they do come with one issue I'm finding with most, if not all of them ..... Horrible bottom end! It seems to my ears that the "older" method of patch making had a much better defined "bass and low end". It seems that this is due to the amount of compression they are using. Also, my overdrives hit the patches differently and that also drives me crazy.... Any thoughts?? Great video BTW, excellent riffs in this video, you shred my man!
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, thanks for the kind words! I agree that the older style patches had more low end and midrange, which made the patches sound darker and “larger”, great for playing by itself. In the context of a full band, I do think that low end isn’t that important; I cut most of it out by the time I hit post-production (I record much more than I play live). Sometimes my low pass filter is at 200Hz! The fact that overdrives react differently to the different amp models is a testament of modelling technology; I used to have a Hotone Binary Amp which sounded the same with my distortion pedal, regardless of the amp model I chose. That being said, not all amp models are created equal on the Helix (a point which I think HW covered in his video). The newer Grammatico is an excellent amp model, but the Small Tweed to my ears has a very limited use case. The Brits react the same way their real-life Marshall’s do, especially that JTM-45, my favourite model amongst the Brits.
@Tone4sunday
@Tone4sunday 2 жыл бұрын
@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar hello..... Great channel BTW....I do agree with you about cutting the low end, in fact when I play live, our sound engineer Eric, definitely cuts some lows. However, IMO, that's the benefit of having a stomp.....I can have a Vox "tone" with massive bottom end. That's something I really can't do in the real world unless I play with my Orange th30. My go to worship amp is the AC Fawn with a tone Junkie G12H30 545 pos4. I have found that a single dynamic mic has that "gunned" out amp feel and tone when it comes to IRs. Just curious, what khz level and IR length do u use in the HX Stomp? And do u use a pedal compressor at the front of your chain? Great video, you play great!

Thanks! My technique has gotten sloppy since my wrist injuries but it's a miracle I am even playing, praise the Lord! Helix accepts 48kHz, 2048 sample length IR's, but I rarely use them since I love the stock cab sounds, my favourite being the Silver Bell with a R121 mic set at 4" or higher.

What are the pickups on your Gibson Classic?? I have stock 490R and 498T humbuckers on my Gibson, would you recommend swapping it for something else?? Thanks and great playing.

Thank you for the kind words! They're the stock Burstbucker 61R and 61T. I have the 496R and 500T on my Explorer which are slightly hotter than yours, so I can imagine the tone on your guitar, and I think it sounds great! No need to swap them out, unless you want a different shade of tone that the Gibson pickups don't have.

I find the TM patches to be less tweakable compared to the older patches. Its like the TM IRs create a stronger compression effect and I just can't get the same aggressive bite that can cut through a mix in the big bridges.

I think you’re right, as I’ve been trying to re-tweak a couple of TM patches but with limited success. I’ve been using Tone Junkie ones as-is; bright enough to cut through the mix, and a high level but dark character of ambience for the guitar to sit on top of.

I'm in the weird position of not really being convinced that most of the TM patches are really much more than marketing, and having used the WT AC30 TM patch at church for the past month exclusively, so I dunno 🙂

The end results vary, so you're not in a weird position! Actually I'm finding it hard to discern the differences in regular vs TM patches through my sound system (and IEM system), my church has a way of making everything sound the same...

Oh what song is that? I’ll take a listen! The fingertapping part was Joe Satriani’s “Oriental Melody” transposed to a major key, the main riffs were Mae inspired.

Maybe I'm dumdum but what does tone match even mean when even amps sound different from individual amps to another? I've had many Marshalls some from the same year and they sound diff. Same applies to other amps that are really expensive too.
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
I hope I'm not mischaracterising WT and TJ, but with tone matching, their aim is to make the Helix sound as identical to the one specific amp they're matching. This means, for example, with the TJ Mars PA 100, the Helix is matched to sound and react like the specific Marshall PA 100 amp that they have. HW did mention in his video that he may want to Tone Match all his Fender amps (stating he owns every single Fender amp). Indeed, I agree that even the same amp model with matching cab can sound different. My best friend and I both had Vox AC4-TV heads, and we could tell them apart based on their tone!

Hi there! Which amp flavour do you prefer? His AC100 and DMBLUXE sound like they could be great P&W patches. Out of the gate, they’re a little drier than your WT sound which is great for pre-2000 worship stuff, but for modern P&W, you could tweak up the delay/reverb, or use WT’s favourite pack as a starting point.

What is Tone Matching?
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar Жыл бұрын
According to WT's official description, "Our Tone Match Helix patches use custom made impulse responses to match the Line 6 amp models to our actual amps (and the microphones, preamps, EQ, etc that we use to record them)." This makes the paired amp model and IR sound and respond closer to the actual amps.

So much ambience on these patches you can't tell what they sound like. But that's worship guitar. Don't use FRFR if you want to sound like a amp. Studio monitors much better. Headphones are not as good as ear plugs. Not close. Sorry to disagree. Just my taste.
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
No worries, you're perfectly entitled to an opinion, and I love that we get to discuss it in the open! Actually the TJ patches have much less delay and reverb than the WT ones, they'll be the ones I use for a non-church gig. If I had it my way, I'd set up a room for studio monitors but I live in an apartment complex and my neighbours hate anything louder than 1 on my amps!
