@@gustavocoronel333 Hi Gustavo. Thanks for watching, and for sharing your thoughts and concerns. I definitely value the opinion of a local Argentine (I'm assuming you're from Argentina). I don't believe that money exchange on the blue rate is comparable to selling guns and drugs on the Black Market, but I respect your opinion if you think those situations are identical. The Western Union exchanges on the blue rate, which is a credited business. The economic situation is certainly not great for Argentines, I agree with that, and find it to be quite unfortunate. However, the reality is that both the red and blue rates do exist. I included that part in this video to help those traveling here understand the reality that there are in fact two different rates, as it is rare to find that when traveling. If people prefer to exchange only on the red rate, that is certainly up to them, and a choice to make. As is exchanging on the blue rate. I'm definitely not the only person on KZbin to mention that two different rates exist. I am just trying to provide information to those who want to come here, and then it is up to the person viewing to decide what they want to do- exchange at the red/blue rate. It's great that you have provided your perspective here as well, so everyone can see it from another side! :)

Gracias !!!

Tap water is safe to drink, although it flavor leans to sourness and loaded with chlorine. The problem with water lays on the building water deposits. They often have one on the basement from where to pump the waters onto the distribution one at the roof, and even when there are periodic cleansing regulations, they may gather dirt when consumption is low enough for the water to settle for long time. When you buy bottled water they're labeled either "Agua mineral" (mineral water) or "Agua de mesa" (safe water) wich is the cheapest, but then you notice the later is just filtered tap water, for it retains the aforementioned flavor. However, at the floor level there's often a tap bringing water straight from the network, and many people use them to fill bottles to drink. You may either filter it, or leave the bottles open on a shelf for a couple of days for the chlorine to disipate and the sediments to settle down, and avoid drinking the last couple of fingers from the bottom were they were deposited, and you get the same safe water you'd buy for cheap.

Hi Cream Pop! Thanks so much for watching, and I'm so glad to hear that the videos have helped so far! :) I also traveled directly from CA to BA, but in Jan. They never mentioned anything specifically about quarantine coverage, just COVID coverage. I think you should be fine with what you have. They really didn't scrutinize my insurance too much. They just asked to see it, so I showed them the pdf on my phone. I flew with American Airlines. I felt that they were just doing their diligence to check everything necessary, but didn't scrutinize anything too much, except for vaccination/PCR related items. I really think you should be fine! Best of luck in BA! I love that city! :)

Quick question: Are there American/British/Aussie expatriot groups one could hook up with there for information or guidance? Am an older person who wants to go down to check it out for possible retirement abroad potential. i don't do FB, so if there was a website or other contact information, that would be great. There was a fairly large expat group in Cuenca, Ecuador that was really helpful. Hoping to find something like that in BA. Your video is fantastic. Lots of really helpful information.
@NickiPostsTravelStuff
@NickiPostsTravelStuff 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy! Yes, there are absolutely those groups. There are a lot of foreigners in Argentina, especially in Buenos Aires. There are quite a few whatsapp and Telegram groups. Unfortunately I think the best place to start is FB. I also don't use FB much, but I do to find out info when necessary. I would suggest creating a FB just so you can read over the posts, ask questions, and find some expat groups that interest you. I've heard great things about Cuenca. My good friend @gringonation was just there recently and mentioned how it's a really popular spot for US citizens to retire. However, the difference I feel (I've never been to Cuenca, just guessing based off what my friend said) is that in Cuenca there seems to be a particular area where all the foreigners hang out together and live. BA isn't like that as much. There are tons of foreigners, but we're all spread out through the city and not concentrated in one main area. Or maybe something like that does exist that I just don't know about. As annoying as FB is, I do suggest creating an account just to do a little research. The links to the FB group and Telegram group are listed in the descriptions of this video.

Two other cool neighborhoods to stay: 1- Las Cañitas, walking distance to the Polo turf, the Casino and the biggest parks, fair mixture of young/middle age, residential/lively, lots to do during the day, places to eat an night life. Also its close to Palermo. 2- Barrio Norte, in between Palermo and Recoleta. my favourite neighborhood. Typical middle class professional residential area it has everyhing, parks, malls, restaurants, shops, quiet areas, hectic areas, banks, safety, and its in the middle of everything, you have every type of transport going though it. Also it has La Pharmacie cafe that makes hands down the very BEST medialunas in town!! 😁 Color note, Argentina has the biggest amount of shrinks per capita in the world. A small area in Barrio Norte is known as Villa Freud (Freudville) caus most of their private practices are there. 😁

In terms of food- it’s possible but not as easy to find veg only food like it is in BA. But they do have veg empanadas and tortilla flavors. I can’t wait to hear how you like it!

Hi Liam! In the video description I have more updated rules. But basically, no! All of the Covid restrictions have been relaxed since I made this video at the start of 2022. All you need is a passport (if you're from the US). If you're not, double check for your specific country. But you do NOT need a PCR anymore! :)

Thanks for the tips, such a helpful video! I do have a question though - 1. Do you need to pay a reciprocity fee to enter the country? I’m traveling soon to BA from California and I’m afraid that they won’t let me in the country due to that requirement. Looked it up on their website and it does say that we are required to. Thanks in advance!

Hi Evil. I have actually never heard of that. In that many times I've entered Argentina, not once have I been asked to pay a fee to enter. I most recently entered in December 2022 from Uruguay and they didn't ask for a fee. My family came in October and were not asked. I have actually never heard of anyone ever having to pay that.

When you say, never use your credit card to pay in BA, so even hotel bookings online are a nono? Better to pay in cash then, or book before you come? Thanks
@NickiPostsTravelStuff
@NickiPostsTravelStuff Жыл бұрын
Things have changed a little since I made this video. Argentina is now allowing Visa and Mastercard to receive the blue rate (but not always!), so it can be possible to pay with a cc on those sites. But since they are not based in Argentina, you still may receive the official rate by paying online. I would usually try to filter for "pay when you arrive" and try to pay in cash if possible. It's really hard to advise on this topic as a 100% do this or that because each place does it differently. I've been to several places who allow me to pay in cash at the blue rate. But I also helped my friend check in to a hostel in BA and they charged him the official rate, even though he paid in cash. They said it was because he booked online.

Hahahaha good question. I honestly don't know the answer. I stayed in Balvanera in January and February and there were mosquitos. Not overwhelmingly, but they were there. There are lots of parks and forests near Palermo and Recoleta, so possibly more over there. But you can buy mosquito repellents at the store- like the ones you plug in the wall, or the ones you burn- to keep in your apt.
