I'm in Storrs and going for a masters degree in Research, Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation. Yes, you are absolutely right the classes are not easy. I made a schedule of readings, discussions, and papers. It has helped a great deal. So far its great.

Becca Faustin I was just accepted to UConn Stamford which was a little off putting because I’d initially wanted to attend at Storrs. If I do decide to attend I too would transfer after a year or two to Storrs. What was your experience like at the Stamford campus? It’d be really helpful!💙

Karina C Cool! I live in Milford and I guess I’m exploratory too lol. I applied late to Storrs for animal science and health sciences and got accepted into my major which like yours, isn’t a major at Stanford:/ Ya know I’ve only seen pictures of the dorms and they look REALLY nice... I was planning on touring the campus but Corona😅

Hi Alyssa - your overview of UCONN seemed so positive and then I read your exchange with Eden (the grad student) and was taken back by your comment to her that there are a "ton of things" you don't like about UCONN and you wanted to transfer at one point. My son can't make a decision between UCONN and another school. Can you tell me what you hated so much that you almost transferred? THANKS a bunch.
@avaresio733 жыл бұрын
Hey Kristin! SO sorry for the late response- I took some time off of youtube. I try to keep things positive but realistic in my videos especially because the majority of people watching are hopeful freshmen. Just like with any situation, there were plenty of things that I liked and didn't like about UConn. One main thing that I struggled with was the sheer size of my classes- being a Bio major, a lot of my classes freshman and sophomore year were huuuuge lecture halls and I struggled a ton with the content because high school didn't prepare me enough for college. I felt like I was drowning at some points and I also felt like I was surrounded by people who were infinitely smarter than I. I also had a lot of health issues my freshman and sophomore year which made my academics slip, and that had a subsequent toll on my mental health. I found that not many of the professors in large lecture halls were understanding about these issues. However, when I moved into my sorority house I gained a super close and supportive group of friends, and then junior year I started taking classes that were more niche and interesting to me personally. If your son wants to talk about uconn, I would love to hear from you or him further! Wish you all the best :)

Great video!!! I would’ve guessed you were a dietetics major, hahaha! I’m interested in applying (or being chosen) to the honors program and was surprised you were in it, just because it’s very selective. How was your experience in it? Do you continue in the honors program throughout college?

I LOVE dietetics but I chose to seek it more as an interest/hobby(?) instead of a career path! When I applied there wasn’t a way to apply to the honors program, I’m pretty sure we were just selected but it is a fantastic program! I love being in honors and it provides many great opportunities for us. I’m still in the honors program now and i plan on graduating with honors!

@@avaresio73 I will just say that I was very naive and thought grad scho would be an amazing experience to explore new ideas and academic freedom to pursue my interests. It killed my spirit, crushed my PASSION for scholarship and teaching, the administrative failures, incompetence, politics... It was a mess. I was expected to lie to prospective students. I had to give up half my funding to stop a colleague from losing her spot and having nowhere to go. Terrible treatment by faculty and exploitation. It broke my heart. I left academia all together in large part because that school was nothing but a stressful nightmare, and when I'm asked, I will still be honest and say that I would discourage it and it would be at the bottom as far as choices for both undergrad and grad. And my students came to me upset and anxious about something every single day. No one was happy. But honestly it's kind of like with family, I still will always have a place in my heart for my school and what I learned about myself. But it was dysfunctional, and I still hold a lot of crap from the negative environment and poor treatment. If there was any other way and I could do it again, I'd never go there. Glad you had a good experience, though! It's refreshing to hear.
@avaresio734 жыл бұрын
Eden Everly agh I am SO sorry to hear that!! That truly sounds like a nightmare and a lot of my friends who are grad students have actually experienced similar situations so I know not all of those problems are solved. There are definitely a ton of things that I really don’t like about UConn and I actually wanted to transfer coming into my Junior year but living in my sorority house really turned around the experience for me. As a larger institution, UConn REALLY needs to work on caring more about its students/faculty.
@calebnadeau71844 жыл бұрын
I'm in all honors classes, and even taking an ECE Economics course that will give me 1 UConn credit. My family is poor, so I'll be able to get free tuition because of something they've recently started. They're waving SATs, which is great because I'm dogshit at math. What do you think my chances of being able to get into storrs are? Not entirely sure what my gpa is but it's pretty decent.
@avaresio734 жыл бұрын
Hey caleb sorry I'm just seeing this! It definitely depends a lot on your gpa and also your extracurriculars, make sure you show them that you're willing to be involved and take leadership positions!
