Ich bin letzen Winter für 2 Wochen ohne irgendeine Vorwissen nach China auf Dienstreise gegangen. Ich habe mich mit allen Leuten sehr gut verstanden und habe auch viel neues dazu gelernt. :) Die Gastfreundschaft ist wirklich großartig.

Das freut uns! Die Chinesen lassen es sich nicht anmerken, wenn etwas schiefgelaufen ist, oder man sich blamiert hat. Das freundliche Lächeln und die Gastfreundschaft bleiben stets aufrechterhalten. Für einen längeren Aufenthalt würden wir daher dringend Vorwissen empfehlen.

Useful every day knowledge about living and getting about in China is always appreciated! We just need to keep in mind that things change quickly and might be completely different in another part of the country. I recommend being careful about "cultural facts" that use words like "never" or "complete no-go". In my apartment building in China it is ok to flush the toilet paper and my best Chinese friend in China uses deoderant regularly. Sorry to be a German nitpicker :P One thing I quickly learned here is that there is no universal experience of China. It really depends on the province, the city, the area, your employer, your school etc. The Chinese high speed trains are great though :D although it can be a hassel to buy/pick up/change tickets and board Chinese trains if you don't have a Chinese ID. Paying with WeChat is super convenient, WeChat can do just about anything for you from paying your electricity bill to donating money to a good cause or splitting the restaurant bill with friends but boy are we 100% transparent to the companies that own our apps and ofc the government. It's vulnerable to fraud, too. I get the excitement about the technological aspects of life in China but technology is a double-edged sword. WeChat has also been used by courts in China to publish personal information about debtors, publicly shame them and target their friends and family. Recently two men were detained for several days because they spoke negatively about the National Day Parade in private (!) WeChat conversations. So yeah, a coin with two sides.

That's not humiliation, it's the openness of dishonest people, and it's part of the construction of honesty and credit system in civil society. hhh Before the system was established, many people who had lost faith owed money to others and owned a lot of property themselves but were unwilling to repay it. As a result, the court publicized part of their personal information and restricted their high consumption at the same time. In fact, this system is very effective. Its appearance makes many people unwilling to disclose part of the information because of dishonesty, and then actively fulfill their legal obligations.

Hey, I am the author of the book and of course you are right! That's why there is a big disclaimer in the beginning of the book explaining that China is flexible and there is no "Chinese", as there are 1.4 billion individuals. The conclusion is to take all the learning and check if they apply in the region the reader is in. Some may be true, some may be false. But in the end I am sure there is something for everyone in this book to take away when moving to China.

Der grösste Unterschied zwischen China und Deutschland ist vielleicht, dass Chinesen ihr eigenes Land niemals in dieser Weise in Grund und Boden reden würden. Und zwar nicht, weil sie es nicht dürfen, sondern weil sie es trotz Defiziten niemals machen würden - ganz prinzipiell. Egal ob öffentlich oder im privaten Gespräch. Insofern haben Kanalbetreiber und Interviewpartner noch viele Lernschritte vor sich in China.

Ja, ich denke, es macht nicht so einen guten Eindruck wenn wir Deutsche unser Land immer schlecht reden, was tatsächlich oft die Tendenz ist, da wir generell sehr kritisch sind. China zu lieben und toll zu finden, bedeutet nicht im gleichen Atemzug das, was es im Vergleich nicht bei uns gibt, als Defizite aufzuzählen, insbesondere in einem öffentlichen Kontext und einem Video, das vielleicht auch von Chinesen geschaut wird. Politisch wird China immer mächtiger und das nicht nur in positiver Hinsicht und da sollte man sich als Ausländer und hier speziell als Deutsche sein eigenes Landnicht so schlecht darstellen. Das gleiche gilt für die deutsche Politik, die selbstbewusst gegenüber China auftreten muss, nur so wird sie ernst genommen. Wenn andere Länder und deren Menschen sich im Kontakt mit China ihre Kultur klein machen, kann das sehr ungesunde Folgen haben, in der Hinsicht, dass China‘s Selbstbewusstsein auf der Weltbühne ungesund stark und überheblich wird und anderen Ländern zum Nachteil, was jetzt schon auf vielen Ebenen zu beobachten ist. Und ich möchte betonen, dass das niemals der Offenheit, Freundlichkeit, dem Interesse, der Wertschätzung, gegenüber China als Land und seinen Menschen im Wege steht. Das sage ich aus eigener Erfahrung, da ich auch schon mit vielen Chinesen guten Kontakt hatte.

Die Schnelligkeit, mit der sich China entwickelt und dass es in Deutschland langsamer geht und ihr letzteres kritisiert, kann ich verstehen. Man sollte jedoch bedenken: China hat auf seiner Größe viel mehr Ressourcen und Raum für Entwicklung als Deutschland. Alleine die Landesfläche an sich ist eine enorme Ressource und bietet Raum für Möglichkeiten und Experimente. Wenn man in Deutschland eine Millionenstadt als Geisterstadt in die Landschaft setzen würde, die dann ungenutzt bleibt, würde man ein halbes oder ganzes Bundesland zerstören in China dagegen ist immer noch genug Platz für einen zweiten Versuch, weil genug Platz ist. Deutschland ist bereits sehr entwickelt und hat gewachsene Strukturen auf engem Raum, auf Grund dessen Planungsprozesse auch komplizierter sind als in so einem riesigen Land wie China, in dem große Teile immer noch sehr unerschlossen sind.
