I'm living in China in the province of Guangdong. Life here is as usual minus the late safety measures to prevent the epidemy to propagate. People start to feel bored at home and have walk in the park in the community. What change for us? Nothing except we have to take our delivery in the entrance of the community. People have an optimistic attitude and make joke about the last jokes on social media. The people that try to flee the city in Hunan for the see resort are in quarantine in the hospital and treat professionally with modern medicine. I have to say that personally I'm very satisfied with the Chinese government measures and the population solidarity is amazing. I'm more concern for people that die of flue in North America than people that die of the corona virus in China.

China will have an 'image' problem as regards teacher recruitment , even after things settle down. Do you think teachers will be in higher demand? Will pay on offer go up (?), ie, will institutions be more willing to negotiate higher rates? I see Cathay Pacific airlines are standing down 27,000 employees without pay. An example of a knock-on effect of the crisis, and an international 'image problem' (no one travelling). Perhaps indicative of a forthcoming supply / demand imbalance of instructors, as we approach the commencement of the new Spring Semester. Bargaining power! (as far as pay goes). Take care.
